Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
I defiantly know I am going to adopt my third Guinea Pig this time But I really want to prepare for the new Guinea Pig too. I'm getting the C&C cage built(My Dad made a rule that I needed to get the cage done first) but I'm not sure what to prepare for it either? Should I have a box to bring her home in? Ah! I am so not prepared for adopting! Help!ETA-I also will have fresh hay, veggies and food for the new arrival(or will have, I should say). I'm just concerend that they won't get along |

I have a suggestion. Why don't you worry about taking proper care of the two you have for about six months, if that works out then think about adding to your herd. |

Having your heart set on one doesn't mean you have to have one right this moment. You really, really owe it to your current guinea pigs to put their needs first and make sure you're doing everything right by them before acquiring any more. I appreciate that you're taking steps to make an appropriately sized cage (finally) but you also need to be sure your current girls are healthy and happy and get a more consistent routine down as far as feeding/water/other care needs/etc before you get another guinea pig. Peggysu's suggestion of giving it a 6 month trial run of properly taking care of the guinea pigs you already have is an excellent one. And believe me, there will be as many cute sweet guinea pigs available for adoption in six months as there are now. |

That's nice, but you still need to be able to properly care for them. I know it's been a little bit of a struggle with the two you have. They may be cute, but they are still living creatures that deserve better care then what you give the two you have. With three it will be even more of a struggle. |

You also need to have a backup plan in case the third pig doesn't get along with the two you have now. And you need to decide where you will quarantine the new pig and in what cage. I agree that waiting 6 months is a very good idea. |

I also have my heart set on one, but, I have to wait a couple months until we can adopt her. It's the responsible thing to do. Yes, Lucky is alone, but right now it's the best for the situation. We have a back-up plan, but we also don't have supplies for a second pig or a quarantine cage set-up. We would also want a proper sized cage in my opinion at least a 2x5 and preferably a 2x6. Until we are ready with supplies and a bigger cage, we are making the best of the situation and trying to make Lucky's life to the fullest in preparation for another pig. Until you can say that, you shouldn't adopt another pig. |

Why is it taking you so long to make your cage? It seems as if its been a while now, everytime you post. It took me an hour to make my first C&C cage! After that I added on upper level, kitchen etc... but first and foremost I put them in the proper size cage so they could get used to it. Anything fancy can come later just get them quickly in the proper size cage. |
