Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

I would ask to see the home of the potential adopter-just to make sure that its the kind of enviroment you want your pigs in. When I adopted one of my boars, the woman came to my house and was able to see the cage, location and all that stuff for herself, and I think it was a real comfort to her. She was also able to see the standards of care that my current pigs lived under, and she very pleased. A truly interested potential adopter will be willing to let you see their home (or I would think).

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

When you adopt out one of your prerequisites should be a 2x4 C&C cage to ensure the owner will house them properly.

Maybe not put questions in the flyer but have a list of questions to ask the potential adopters once they email you about the pigs. You also have to be aware that people will tend to lie to you so if you find a local person to adopt, you should ask to come to their home to deliver the pups and see the cage setup, etc. Make sure you charge an adoption fee also. It doesn't have to be high but high enough that reptile owners would be discouraged from emailing you. People will tell others what they want to hear a lot of times.

Yes I have questions ready and I might not put the on the flyers, but I have also put on there. a $25.00 adoption fee for both Should it be higher? Also I have written down If I don't find any body I like to Take My wonderful little babies to a new home I'm in no Rush to just ship them away I'll take all year if I have to. To find them the right home. Who will
care and love them, As Any other pet in the family.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

Personally, I'd probably go a bit higher on the adoption fee. But if you find a good family that will take good care of them, you could negotiate the fee later on.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

If I were you I'd leave the price to the end. A real good-intentions owner would care too much about the price. You should also ask them what brand they are planning to feed them. If they're going to give them Nutriphase and stale hay, then that's not a promising sign.

I don't really think you need to have a requirement that a potential adopter know all the right answers, just that they be willing to learn.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

I wouldn't ask questions right away. Instead, just tell them that guinea pigs require a lot of space, vet care, and fresh veggies daily. Provide links to this site, guinea lynx, cavy spirit, etc. and ask them to review guinea pig care before contacting you. Then when you talk to them, you can ask them to explain what they found in their research and how they plan to care for the pigs. That way it is less of a quiz and encourages them to research all of guinea pig care, not just your specific questions.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

I would spell check and grammer check then delete the last section and put "Looking for a fab home for my sweet super spoiled boys. Nothing less will do, they deserve the best!"

Thats my opinion. Good luck on rehoming.

Angry I've found a home for my two boars BUT!

not sure if this is in the right spot or not. If not just move it.

I've had an ad up around my town for 2 weeks. This past Thursday
someone came for them, I asked questions about what veggies are best? What kind of cage/space do they need/required?(I had my C&C cages moved
up stairs for the time being) if need to be will they take them to the vet/ Do they have emergency Vet Funds? they even gave me a Vet reference. Which I called that night and the Vet Said yes they go here and so forth. They answered all my questions With a good and positive attitude, Which I liked and They gave me the $45.00 adoption fee money I had Asked. Well Today I get a phone call from a friend that live a few towns away. She told me that My two baby guinea pigs are in a mom and pop shop in her town With a For Sale sign up. OH was I furious. I Drove Right up to that pet store and sure Enough they where there. Now I didn't get them. I don't know how to go about this i asked the sales person when they where brought in and He said yesterday afternoon by a lady that is a regular here. So I don't know what do do or even where to begin with it. I Don't have the lady's number but I have her Email So I emailed her, and no email back Yet. Im just so struck by this whole situation I don't know?

Re: I've found a home for my two boars BUT!

Actually, I am going to merge this with your rehoming thread so everyone can read the full story.

I would under no circumstances leave them at the petstore. They could end up in some home where they may not be taken care of properly.

To everyone: Be assured that if a thread is not in the proper forum section, it will be moved so statements like this really are unnecessary. But please everyone do your best in putting threads in the proper forum sections because we mods have so much work to do on the forum already without adding so much more. There is even a sticky thread at the top of the About Guinea Pigs forum that tells you about the different areas and where to post what.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

Well i did go to the pet store and asked the sales man where they came from and who brought them in. He told me a regular that comes in a lot. So I told him them that they where mine and that I would like them back. he told me sure If I pay for them. The total would of been over $65.00 They are on sale for $33.00 a piece. And I told him Get the woman on the phone if shes such a regular. He told me they cant do that So I put up a fuss about the whole situation, and Got kicked out of the store. So I came home and Emailed this lady saying::
Hello mam, you recently bought two baby guinea pigs off of me and I had noticed them sitting at a pet shop today. I would like to know why you did that, If you came down to my house and paid me $45.00 for them. Just so you could get rid of them. I don't appreciate that. So if you could please Email me back and Tell me why you did it and return them back to me I would give you back your money. it would be appreciated If you could do so.
Thank you and I hope you email me back and bring me back my piggy's Please.

I may be reading to much into this but you may have sold your piggies to maybe a breeder that for some reason or another wasn't able to meet the demand of that perticular pet store. The person that bought your guinea pigs may have been one of the stores suppliers.

This now has me rethinking about even rehoming any of my Inka's babies after they are born. I can easily figure out a way to keep them all I suppose.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

I am also going to be re-homing some pups, and what I am doing is typing out a care guide to send home with them, of course including the links to this site and guinea lynx. I am including all the care tips from cage requirements, diet needs, dangers, etc...., information on the reality of owning a cavy (Like a cavy is not just an easy pet you leave in a cage, it takes time, effort and money for veggies etc..) I will print out a nice booklet of my recommendations and also be interviewing potential buyers.

Re: Need to re home my two Males and need help with questions

See I did that I made a guide up and gave it to the lady. the thing is she even had a 11 year old little girl with her and we sat and chatted for about 45 minutes at my place about cavy care and this site and others. and so I thought she was a good person to give them too. She had excitement in her voice and all. So you just never know.
