Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Ok so looking for a new guinea pig for our family has been such a headache! I've tried looking online to find rescues or shelters within my area but I'm not having any luck. We are trying to work something out with our vet, but she doesn't have any piggies that would mix well with our guy (either they are too old/female/etc.). There was a listing near me at this website:

Guinea Pig Home Listings - Youngsters for Adoption **UPDATED**

But when I tried to make an account it wouldn't let me. I can't see this guy's email, so if anyone is a member of this site, could you please look up the email he has listed. I would love to adopt a gp from these people.

ALSO any other tips to try and find adoptables/rescues? I really need some help!

(Oh, I also checked our local shelter and they don't have any guinea pigs. They mostly have dogs and cats.)

I'm assuming that you live in PA? Have you checked out petfinder?: Philadelphia, PA: Adoptable Pets: Petfinder

Haha not even close. Guess I should have said where I lived. I'm in West Lafayette, IN. The ad showed it was 65 miles away from me (unless it thought I was in a different town to begin with?).

I also tried Petfinder for my area, but the closest was still hours away.

Thank you very much!

I'm also going to try calling our vet again. She was going to get in touch with someone else that also rescues guinea pigs and see if they had a little guy that matched what we are looking for.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

It'll take time, but eventually the perfect piggie will come along!
I'd just wait and look at craigslist every day. Our newest addition was from a lady on there, and she drove half way to meet us at a gas station.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Rescues may help with transportation. Check Craigslist every day. Ask the shelters to call you if they get any guinea pigs in (many don't advertise them). And above all, just be patient and something will surely come along.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

The guy in this listing is SO close to me! He's got babies that would be PERFECT! If only I could see his email! ARGH! I'm so frustrated. I signed up with an email, but anytime I go to look at his ad, the site logs me out. I don't know why it's doing that but it's super annoying. If I could just email this guy then I'd at least have one chance.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

My fiance lives in Indiana and I was showing her these links. Not sure how far they all are from you, but hopefully there will be something you can use. I drove almost an hour for my girls and it was so worth it.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

It does not post the email on the site. It only allows you to inquire through their form. I sent them a message telling them that you are interested and asked them to send me their email to pass on to you, but I believe it also logged me out. It could be a problem with the site. I would email the site owners if you can find contact information for that.

Also, there is a link to their myspace page in their add. If you have an account there, you could try messaging them through that.

Sometimes adoptable are hard to find. I drove 2 hours one way just to pick up my bonded males. Patients will eventually pay off.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Thanks piggymama! I checked out all of the links. Unfortunately, a few lead to the Critter Coral in Illinois, so a whole state over is a bit too much. A lot of the listings were for females too, and what we need is a very young male (baby-3 months old). I will keep looking around, but thank you very much for your help.

I made a MySpace account just to try and contact the guy from the link in my first post. I hope he replies soon. He's only 60 miles away and I would drive the whole way to get a chance to see his babies. Keep your fingers crossed that he still has baby boys and will get in contact with me!

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

You can also try Kijiji, there are usually some pigs for sale there and contacting the person is very easy, just type in your email and a message and it sends.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Just a warning--a lot of people on Kijiji are breeders.

Critter Corral is an excellent rescue, but I believe they only adopt to people in the Chicago area.

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Actually we've adopted a few pigs out to Lafayette. But we also work with the vet there who does rescue and we've already been in contact with her about a few possibilities..

Here are some males on craigslist

Guinea Pig with Cage-FREE

silkie guinea pig

Guinea Pig (s) - Long-haired (although I would ask questions on these guys. The wording is suspect. They sound like a possible breeder)

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Have you contacted any of the rescues that are too far away for you to drive to? Some will help transport or they might have fosters that are close to you. Also, have you called your local humane societies? The ones local to me do not post anything but cats and dogs online (and even then they aren't updated regularly), but they are willing to take down my name so they know to contact me if the receive guinea pigs. Good luck. You're patience will be rewarded!

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

Critter Corral is only a two hour drive (so says google maps!). They are really great people and they might be willing to meet you halfway. They have tons of piggies. We got our girls from there and they are wonderful
Shoot them an email and see what it brings you.
We drove an hour to get there and it was worth it!
