Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

I have the most wonderful news! After talking with Rose (who knows are vet here in Lafayette, IN), we will be able to adopt a baby boy from the Critter Coral! From what I am gathering, our vet is operating on 2 other guinea pigs for CC, and when they get the piggies back they will bring our new guy for us to pick up! I am SO excited now! The pics I have seen of him are so precious! I cannot wait to get him! Haha! Even my own mother is calling him her "new grandson". Thanks to everyone for their help and telling me about patience (something I do NOT have much of, ). I am so glad everything worked out and we are able to give a little guy a new loving home where he will be spoiled senseless.

Here is a pic of him. His cuteness is making my head explode a little. XD

We are thinking of renaming him to Reeces, since his colors reminded me of the candy right away (and it also happens to be my favorite candy).

Re: Having a VERY hard time finding adoptables!

I have a question for all the cavy-savy people out there:

We were told that our new guy is a back-bred pig and is smaller than normal pigs his size. I looked up that back-breeding (back-to-back breeding) is an issue people are dealing with by breeders. Does that mean that they were continuously breeding a sow again and again with little rest time in between?

PS - I am checking with Critter Coral AND our vet to make sure our new guy is ok. He may be healthy; just small. (Hopefully Rose will see this too and help me out!)

Yes, that is what it means. A sow can get pregnant pretty much immediately after giving birth (unlike some other animals). I hope you get your little guy soon!
