It would help if we had a zipcode to search with. I'll try to find some listings in Sacramento soon as I find the zipcode. Well, I found A zipcode. Here is one listing I found an hour away: Adopt a Guinea Pig: Various Pigs: Petfinder Oh! Another shelter with guineapigs that's an hour away from Sacramento: Napa County Animal Shelter Last edited by Seonta; 07-24-09 at 06:55 pm. |

The Sacremento SPCA and the other shelter there regularly get in guinea pigs. Try Cavy House rescue too. They are listed on petfinder and at guinealynx. |

They might be but you can't know for sure without going and seeing the animals. I personally wouldn't use craigslist but some people do. |

You can't always tell that way but you can tell by looking at the ad. The wording, and the age/ breed of the pigs is usually a dead giveaway. These are breeders: Lovable Guinea Pigs Free Guinea Pigs! (look at the hosting link... it has a big breeder header) This one most likely is Guinea pig males |

Craigslist is where I adopted the three boars I have. Unfortunately both people were college students! One was graduating and the other was leaving off for college! |

I saw what was said in chat about petstores and breeders and was very upset that people were advocating petstores in chat when this is an Anti-petstore that sells animals site. We simply do NOT allow people to advocate buying pigs in petstore or from breeders anywhere on this forum. Please do not buy a pig from a breeder. I know you are young but it seems you don't know the horror stories out there. Go read threads in the kitchen forum to learn why buying in petstores and from breeders is so bad and why we are so against it. Maybe then you will change your mind. There are thousands of homeless pigs all across the world. Anywhere there is a petstore or breeders, there will be homeless pigs. By buying from a breeder, you are condoning breeders and what they do, condemning the lives of pigs and letting an abusive cycle continue. The only way to stop the cycle is to stop buying from breeders/petstores. Most breeders don't care much about their pigs, they keep them in small cramped cages, sometimes backbreeding them until the sow literally dies, sometimes the pups don't survive and all for what? So you can run to your nearest breeder and buy a pig or two who's mother may have died giving birth to them or maybe some of their siblings died. Breeders also normally don't feed high quality pellets, give no veggies, give harmful things like vitamin drops in the water and salt licks/mineral stones, and provide no hay. Where do you think petstore pigs come from? Do you think they magically appear out of thin air? No, they come from breeders and the conditions I mentioned earlier. They are often sick because poor care makes for rampant illnesses, mites and other parasites and sometimes pregnancy. And if/when you buy your pig(s) from a breeder, know that not only you but they too will continue the vicious cycle. The breeder will just breed more litters to replace the ones you bought taking away homes from pigs that need them. I hope you can think more maturely and do the right thing and find pigs to adopt that really need homes and not buy them from breeders. If you do end up getting pigs from breeders, don't flaunt it here because we don't want to hear it. |

Are you still looking? I contacted you but received no reply. If there is something that is not working for you with this could you please let me know and maybe we could make adjustments so that the boys get a wonderful home and it also doesn't cause undue hardship on you? |
