I finally found a girl pig!! Here is her link. Guinea pig & accessories Think it looks ok? She is about an hour away though! The rehoming fee is kinda ridiculous, too!! Would they lower it if I didn't take the cage and everything? Just the pig? Also at the bottom it says cash and pick up only. So they probably won't drive half way? I can probably talk my dad into driving the entire way. I just have to talk my parents into it now! Have any ideas how? Could you list the benefits of having a second pig? Just so I have it all in one place. Thanks so much! |

As for what it says in the ad - many people will negotiate on both price and other terms if you truly sound like you will provide a good home for the pig. It's wise of them to have put that price in so as to prevent her from being snatched up by people who wanted a feeder animal. You should mention that you have experience caring for a guinea pig and have enjoyed it so much that you want to do even better by her by getting her a friend, and that you have a cage much larger than any pet store cage and take care of it, etc. etc. The benefit of having two is that they are social animals and are happier and healthier having a friend, just like people are better off mentally and physically when they have companionship. They are also more interesting in pairs because they interact! |

Also emphasize that having two pigs does not cost much more than one. She's a cutie! |

6 weeks is plenty old enough, but make sure you baby proof the cage and feed alfalfa pellets (or another form of extra calcium). If you get both, be sure to verify that they are female. |

So i would quarintine for 3 weeks. Then when she and my pig get a long then they are in the C&C together. If the one needs alfalfa hay and pellets won't the other pig eat them?? |

I would get wich ever one is closer. Personally, my parents wouldn't drive more than an hour to get a guinea pig. If you get the 6 week old you would need to baby proof you cage and give alfalfa hay. |

You only need one, hay or pellets. I would put 2 parts grass hay and 1 part alfalfa hay and then regular pellets. It's okay if they both eat alfalfa hay. |

The baby needs extra calcium. The easiest way to do this if you also have an adult is to feed both pigs timothy pellets. Then give the baby veggies with extra calcium during lap time (parsely is one example). To babyproof the cage, you can extend the sides to 10" with cardboard or coroplast. Or you can overlap the grids so the spaces are smaller. How big is your cage? |

This is the picture I used: Double grid (1/4 openings) - Guinea Pig Cage Photos Make sure you put the zip ties in the exact place they are in the picture of it won't work. |

A 2x3 is the smallest for 2 females. Make sure you do quarentine behind closed doors for 3 weeks and wash you hands after handling. |

I would email both of them and find out a little more about each pig and each owner if you think that the hour ride is doable for the right pig. The little fuzzball in the picture is adorable, though! I have also noticed that not all craigslist people will respond, so that's another reason for inquiring about both pigs. I had someone who was willing to drop the rehoming fee once I told them a bit about myself and my current pigs but decided not to take the pig in the end because I wasn't 100% sure that it wasn't pregnant and I can't have babies! But anyway, best of luck to you! Your existing pig will love having a friend. And when my pigs were little I just cut up a large box and put cardboard between the grids and coroplast to make them about 8-10" high. Last edited by fieryone; 07-21-09 at 04:47 pm. My parents won't be home till later tonight. I will talk to my dad and mom and then if they say yes I'll have my dad e-mail both. I know they probably aren't pedophiles but to be safe!! |

A 2x4 would be much better. A loft is fine too, but try to keep the ramp from blocking off too much space below. I hope you get them! |

Yeah I would need more grids and I think we have some coroplast left over...we should! The loft would be at most a 1x2...depends on how many grids I have left! |

I'd make sure the latter isn't a breeder. |
