I posted
here about a situation where a girl I know had taken two babies from an unexpected litter to a pet store because she had no where else to take them. Here is an exert from that post:

A girl I know took a litter of guinea pigs into town to the better petstore because the man who owns that one said he would take them because it was an unplanned pregnancy and she didn't know what else she could do with them (she wouldn't let me convince her to try to find adoptive parents for all of them online) and when she got there he said he couldn't take them anymore so she took them to the horrible pet store with the wallaby and that lady took them. I went to see them in the store the day after she left them there and I was so shocked I wanted to cry! She had them in a large rabbit cage with a wire mesh bottom that was two large for the pigs to walk on so she had put a small kitty litter pan in with them with a very large empty food bowl in the middle of it. She had the boy and the girl baby together and another very large male pig in with them. They had absolutely no room at all to walk around and they were climbing over each other. The babies were obviously terrified. They had no food or water.

Yesterday I went back with the girl who had left them there to check on them and again found them in terrible condition. They did have water but no food of any kind, and no hay. They were still in the same cage where they couldn't move and they had hardly grown since I had seen them two weeks ago. The woman was cleaning the closet she keeps here wallaby in that I mentioned in the post I linked to, and had the door to the room open but she was in the front of the store. The wallaby noticed me standing near the opening of his closet and went to jump towards me, but his jump was awkward and clumsy - that was when I noticed that his toenails were seven inches long and curled in a way that was deforming his poor toes. He could not jump correctly because of this and the only reason his nails had gotten like that is because he has no where to jump and wear them down. My friend and I were very upset and we contacted the humane society who said they have received numerous complaints about this pet store and they are sending someone over today to look into it.
After we were done at the humane society we went back to the terrible pet store and my friend asked for her babies back and miraculously the woman gave them up without a fight, but she did very roughly grab them by whatever she could catch at put them in a box that crickets had been shipped to her in and still had dead crickets and cricket poop in the box. We quickly transfered them to a different container after leaving the store.
I now have the two babies and need to find a new home for them as quickly as I can. I have two piggies of my own in a nice big c&c cage and I unfortuanely do not have the resources to keep two more pigs. I do not have any more supplies to make another c&c cage for these two and can not afford to buy the supplies. I have them separated into two pet store cages right now and even though I hate to have them in those tiny cages they are still 100x better off than they were at that petstore.
They were born on May 21st so they are a month and 12 days old today. Since the girl was kept with her brother and another large male at the store I have no way of guaranteeing that she is not pregnant. They both have pleasant attitudes despite what they have gone through and they seem to be thrilled to be able to eat hay and actually have some place to hide. I must find a new home for them within the next two or so weeks because I can only keep them where I am staying so long. I am in Illinois kind of near the quad cities and can drive a couple hours in any direction, including into Iowa or Missouri to find a loving home for these two.
