I have been scouring the web for local adoptable female piggies and have turned up nothing. I check Craigslist every few days and have sent countless messages to users, and all of the ones who responded have said their piggies have already found new homes. I have contacted a local rescue, filled out an application, and have not received a reply (this was a few weeks ago). Unfortunately, I cannot branch out too far and inquire about piggies in other states because I cannot drive far distances and would need them to be delivered close to me, and I know it is not safe or healthy to ship piggies, and would never trust anyone who said they would. Any other ideas as to how I could obtain a piggy who needs a home? |

What part of PA are you in? There is a rescue near here (Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue) Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue. I'm sure you would want to meet the piggy first, but maybe people in the area could do some type of "railroad" (transport chain, one person picks up piggy drives so far, the next person takes over, and so on until it gets to the new adopter). I live in the Baltimore County area (East side) of Maryland and wouldn't mind participating in something like this to help out. But again, you would probably want to meet the piggies first, and that would require coming to at least the MD area (not sure where they have thier meets, as they are foster based). So, not sure. But again, I would be willing to help out if there are others that could do so as well. |

Well I double checked PetFinder last night and found a pair of girls (mother and daughter) whom are just precious! I emailed an adoption application and got a reply, so they accepted me! The only thing is, it is at least an hour away and I am absolutely horrible with driving somewhere I've never been. But hopefully I will be fine and it will be worth it. One of the girls just had a litter of babies so she wont be available until around the 23rd, which will give me plenty of time to get settled in to my new place and unpacked. I am so excited and really hoping it works out!!! |

3piggymomma, I think I found the piggies that you are talking about, are they named Audrey (the mom) and Agnes (the daughter)? If so they are just precious and seem like wonderful guinea pigs. The videos of them are cute too! Also, if you are worried about driving that far since it is an unfamiliar area, you could take a friend or family member along with you so they can navigate and you can drive or vice versa. |

Yes, Agnes and Audrey are the piggies... but hopefully those will not be their names for much longer |

Congrats! It took my sister and I awhile to find a adoptable piggy, but it was worth the wait. She also didn't live too far away for us. My sister got her boyfriend to go pick her up. :P |

Thanks. I am really excited too. I had been so picky at first about breeds and coloring (didnt want any who's colorings were close to Cody or Deno's) and one of these is slightly similar, but they are the most local ones I can find, and still young so I can have many wonderful years with them, so I am so excited |

Yea, sounds so good. You must post pictures, when the girls, are finally yours. Good luck with the driving too. |

Hurray! This is the perfect example to show people who say "There are no pigs near me to adopt!" Patience will always be rewarded. Congratulations and I double the request for pictures. |

You bet the first thing I do after I get them home is take lots of pics! I'm still trying to finalize a name for one of them. But I have a few weeks still. I'm so excited, and very happy that I chose to adopt and give two needy piggies a second chance instead of buying from a pet store. |

Congrat's on the new ones. It's very rewarding to save a life and give an animal a life they deserve. Can't wait to see the pictures. |

The adoption is finalized... on their PetFinder ads it says "pending" beside their names. They are only available after the 23rd because one of them just had babies, and I have not received an email back yet scheduling the exact day I will go get them, but I am hoping it is as soon as possible! I'm too excited now! I painted a little name plate for them to hang outside the cage, and bought some extra grids to make a stand for the cage as well as found a perfect place to put it in the room where I am most often. My mother will go along with me to pick them up, even though she has no idea yet that I am getting them and will not be happy about it, she can't stop me! I will post lots of pigtures once I bring them home! |
