Ok I unknowingly got a pregnant piggie from a pet store and now have two babies. Before discovering she was expecting we were thinking about getting another one anyway, so when she had only two I decided to keep them both. My concern is I am pretty sure one is a girl and one is a boy (they are only 6 days so I will keep checking) If I keep the baby boy I will have to seperate him in 2 weeks and he will be alone until we can get him fixed in 5-6 months. I don't think we can get a fourth piggie boy and seperate cage, I am afraid 3 will be hard to keep up with. I thought about finding him a home but I would prefer keeping him, I love him already and they seem to be bonding so well. Plus I would always be afraid he would not be cared for properly. He is so cute, a pink eyed white, more like a ruby eyed white with a great personality! If I keep him seperate until he is old enough to neuter will he be incredible lonley and cry? Is there anything I can do to help him out or should I find him a home with a boy. Is neutering safe? Are there any other suggestions? |

Number one thing now is to make sure you separate him from the mom and sister at 3 weeks of age or he can/will impregnate mom AND sister. I would double and triple check as they get older to make sure you have one of each. If you keep him, I would check now to see how much it costs to neuter him. Neutering a male is alot easier on them than spaying a female. He can live alone & should if you're going to get him neutered. I've heard that all babies will "whine" when separated from mom. It's just natural. I would try to spend more time w/ him while you're waiting for him to get older. IF you decide you want to rehome him, you have a few options. You can try to rehome him on your own. You can post on craigslist, petfinder, on here, in the newspaper or at your vet's office. I would make sure to ask for a rehoming fee and ask the new owner to keep in contact w/ you for a few months. Anyways, I hope this helps. Good luck! |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
I am not sure where abouts you live, I have had a vet quote of 252$ for neutering a male, If it was me, I would most likely keep them!! I have three piggies, and honestly other than buying hay and food and veggies more often, cleanup and floor time ect. are not that different from having one or two piggies!! it can be done! Hopefully they are all girls so they can all live together! but if not, I'm sure you will pick the best option for your litter of little ones! |
