Elvis Needs a Home

Hello Fellow GP lovers! I recently had a situation where someone became allergic to their 2 male gp's and dumped them to me. Come to find out the 2 males DO NOT get along! They dont get along to the point where Elvis (up for adoption) has a torn ear the 2 have to be seperated! I was able to rehome one male, however Elvis now needs a home! If any one is in the NY, NJ, PA area and would like to consider Elvis please let me know!

A little about Elvis:
He is roughly around a year or so old.
I do not have a picture but he is mostly white crested with brown around both eyes
He is very gentle, and likes to lick!
He is very vocal around females (hes a lady's man) (dont worry all were seperate cages!)
He would possibly get along with another male piggy (maybe a baby male) As he was NOT the dominant male in cage

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

I have met Elvis and he is an awesome pig and super cute. He needs a cage to run around in. This pig has had a rough time so far, I hope someone will help him out and give him a great home!

Good luck Elvis and thanks psmadden for trying to help the little guy.

If they are kept in a small cage, that may be why they are fighting. Have you read the boars behaving badly thread at guinealynx? There are tips on getting them to co-exist more peacefully.

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

He was previously housed with another boar in a small cage where he was quite beat up on. Those owners gave both pigs up for adoption, the aggressor has been re-housed but elvis still needs a home.

Elvis is a gentle pig and may live well with another male if he were givin the proper care, space and a C&C cage.

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

Hmm. I'm a little outside the area in CT but have been considering getting a boyfriend for my 3 females. He would be neutered, of course. My husband seems to have opened up a little more to another pig (it's no longer a sigh and an eye roll, ) but he doesn't seem especially jazzed about "going through the trouble" of getting a male neutered and I think he would prefer another female for that reason. But I can bring it up again and gauge his reaction.

I know you don't have a picture, but would there be a way to get one? If I have a pig to actually show him I think I might be a bit more successful. And I may have some personality questions as well to see if you think he would get along with my Lucy. She's turning into quite the little pistol. Oy

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

As far as his personality goes, he is very laid back- (which is why i think he got picked on by that other boar) He has been put near females just to 'meet' under supervision and he like to chase them during floor time. Never has he tried to fight with any of them. He is very vocal when he hears my girls wheeking!! Any one who i tried to adopt him to would say hes either too loud or they feel he "doesnt do any thing" he does like to lay back in his hidey with his legs all kicked out from time to time- but ruffle something and hes all over!! I will get a picture up by tonight!

Laid back is good. Lucy is becoming very bossy which is why I don't think that her and Lola get along. While Lola doesn't seem to be especially dominant, I don't think she's agreed to be subordinant to Lucy either. After 8-9 months, these girls still don't get along. They don't fight, but they complain to each other all the time and will nip every once in a while. Lucy rumblestruts around Lola all the time and mostly Lola will look at her with a "get over yourself" kind of demeanor . They just remind me of roommates that coexist but can't stand each other.

So my thought is either to add a male and shake up the dynamic a bit and hopefully all four would get along more peacefully, or separate Lola (who is very cool, vocal, and laid back) with a new friend and leave Lucy and Ethel together if Plan A doesn't work.

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

My hub and I talked about it. He's isn't against another one but he made a good point that the timing may not be right quite yet. He also doesn't understand why I would have to get a pig from NJ when there are pigs all over craigslist nearby, but I travel to NY and NJ fairly often for work so the drive isn't a big deal to me so that's a non-issue.

We're in the beginning stages of trying to buy house and are having our first meeting with a realtor on Wednesday and he thinks it would be better to get another pig AFTER we've moved and he has a good point. Making my cage bigger could be done, but not without some creative moving around.

Re: Elvis Needs a Home

Aww he is a very cute piggy. My guinea pig is around a year old but sadly she is female and we don't have enough space for another piggy even though i would love one. Have you tried Petfinder? They have lots of ways to post animals that need homes.

*Update: Elvis has found a home!! *fingers crossed* that he stays there!! he has had 2 homes already, I dont know why any one would want to give him up! he went home with a former piggy owner whose piggy had passed away, and they might even get elvis a cage buddy!!! *Plus i have referred them to this site to read about the Fleece project (they have a c&C for him!!!)
