Looking to adopt a young male in Maine

So, we took in a 3/4 month old lil boy who needed a home. We knew before getting him that we would need to get 2 cavies and basically planned to adopt another after a bit. So, now we are on the search for a friend for Gus. We are up in the northern part of Aroostook County but as of late we travel often to Ellsworth (with a cavy-sitter staying at home). So we can travel as far as that. Does anyone know of a male piggy that needs a new home?

Re: Looking to adopt a young male in Maine

I've never had more than one male at a time, but I understand they can have issues getting along if they go through adolescence at the same time. Around 6 to a year months, I believe. You might be better off looking for an older boy or a spayed female.

Have you tried Petfinder, Craigslist and Petharbor? CL is a bit of a gamble but Petfinder will show your local GP rescues, who will help you find the best match. Petharbor gives you all the pigs in shelters and it's updated frequently.

Good luck finding him a new friend.

Yes, I recommend getting an older pig as well. They're more likely to get along.

Also try contacting rescues within a few hours drive. Some of them help with transportation.

Re: Looking to adopt a young male in Maine

Ok, so older it is. And actually I did find something promising on craigslist. Had to look 100 times... LOL. Kept finding them too faraway and/or female... Thanks so much for pointing out that I need an older one.
