How successful have you been? I haven't gone this route before because when I was looking for pigs there just really weren't any listed. This time I wasn't really looking, but when I was looking for breeder ads (to flag, of course) it seems like there are suddenly so many pigs out there. Mostly male. I saw this one little guy who is SO cute. Heartwrenchingly cute! She got him in January, he doesn't get along with her existing pig so now she has him living in a cat carrier. So I had to email the girl about him to either give him a good home and try to adopt him out to someone who will take care of him properly, or have him neutered and keep him. She listed him on Wednesday, I emailed her on Thursday, and I know that it's only been a day but I haven't heard back yet. In fact, this is the 3rd pig that I emailed about in the past week or so and no one has responded. Do piggies listed on craigslist really go that fast? Some I've seen listed for weeks! But they're pairs and mostly (supposedly) male. A male pair simply won't work for me since I have females. Plus I feel like I need to "save" this little guy. I'm kind of bummed out, actually. So what has your experience been? I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that she will get back to me, but since he is in central MA (and I'm in southern CT) if I'm going to get him, it basically has to be over the weekendI don't know, maybe I'm just venting. Should I just assume that he's already been given to someone or should I keep on trying? I'm finding that I really want this little guy! |

I found a female on CL that was only a couple miles from my house. They put their phone number in the ad and it was probably close to a week before I was able to reach them. Don’t ask me why they placed the ad right before going out of town, but they must have pulled it as soon as I drove away because it wasn’t there later that night when I tried to show my new girl to a friend. If you want him, keep trying. I still watch local pigs (actually, I’m ready for another) and some of the postings are there for weeks, disappear and then come up again with new pictures or re-worded. Oddly enough, those seem to be the ones with the most info whereas the generic “Brown and white, 6 month old guinea pig needs new home due to move.”, come and go pretty quickly around here. I’m not sure if it’s because they get dumped after a few days or because people who give a little history about their pigs are more selective about where they end up. |

Keep in mind that many people don't check their emails daily. It could be the people are busy and haven't had time to respond to you. I help T answer a lot of questions she gets through emails and sometimes I only answer them on certain days of the week or even once a week when I have time even though I check my email many times per day. Don't give up hope on these pigs but give the people time to answer back. |
