opinions needed

I work at Petco and we just got in a new male piggie. I said I wouldn't adopt from there anymore, but he came with some supplies and I'm pretty sure the person who ends up getting him will use them.

He came with a really tiny "starter kit" size cage that's probably not even 1 grid by 2 grids total. It's barely wide enough to fit the pigloo. He also came with Walmart food, treats, and salt lick wheels. Basically what Petco does is give away whatever the animal came with to the adopter. I would just throw this stuff away and sell the cage as a quarantine one or use it as a litter box or something.

Another reason I'm thinking about getting him is because he's super skinny despite being on an alfalfa-based food and his ears look all torn up like other pigs took little bites of them.

The last reason is because I was looking for a neutral or submissive pig to even out my two hugely dominant boys. They're always teeth-chattering at each other and I'm thinking getting a submissive pig would help with that.

I've already gotten my Grandma's approval (since I live with her) and she said if he's still there within a few days, we could get him.

Do you guys think I should get him? I'll get him for free because I work there so won't be giving Petco any money.

It's hard to tell if he will be submissive though, once he is healthy and feeling better. Are you prepared to have another C&C cage for him alone if he doesn't get along with the other two?

You need to quarantine still if you decide to take him.

Re: opinions needed

I don't have a second C&C cage at the moment, but I can easily make one with my leftover supplies if they don't get along.

Another thing I forgot to ask. Is there a way to tell if he's submissive or dominant when he's by himself?

I'm pretty sure he's submissive because he acts somewhat like my first pig did when he was by himself.

Re: opinions needed

I don't think there is really any way to tell whether he will be submissive or dominant. Since you said he doesn't look 100% healthy, his behavior could change once he's in good health. However, I had a pretty good feeling about each of my pigs when I got them, and all but one were right. If you don't mind building another C&C for him if he doesn't get along with your other males, and you are ready to quarentine, and you aren't giving Petco any money, then I don't see any reason not to.
