Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Hi - We recently adopted a boy who is BIG but we're not sure how old he is. He spent a year in a school classroom and then the summer and fall with another family who couldn't care for him - so I'm thinking he's probably close to a year and a half. We'd like to adopt a friend for him to play with. Would you recommend a fixed female? Or a younger male? What do you think would be the best combo for us? Thanks in advance for the input! |

It's best to get a male. But if you find a female that is already spayed and you really like her, then it should be fine as long as she is spayed. |

Will two males fight for dominance? Does the age matter? |

It depends on the pigs. I think usually if you have a older one, it's better to get a younger one, and if you have a younger one, it's better to get an older one. And if you have a dominant pig, get a less dominant one. |

As has been said, the majority of baby/young boars will be okay with an older boar. If you get an older boar, they most likely would fight. Spaying sows is much more invasive than neutering a boar so if you do deside to get a sow, it would be better to have your boar neutered, rather than her. |

I would match them oppositely. Except for gender of course, unless one of them is already fixed. If you have to have one of the procedures done yourself, you should neuter the male as it is a less invasive procedure. By opposites I mean, if one is dominant, the other should be submissive, if one is older, adopt a younger one. I would think two males would be best. |
