I am in NE Pennsylvania. I purchased our first guinea pig, before coming to this site and doing research on other sites. She was pregnant, big surprise to us, even though now I see how common it is. She had 2 boars, which we separated from her at 21 days. They are now living happily together in my daughter's room in a very large cage. But Tess, momma pig, is in our computer room and all alone. I did not want to get another piggy until I was 100% sure the boys were separated in time and she was not pregnant again. Tuesday the 11TH, she will be separated 10 weeks and has shown no sign of pregnancy so I think we are in the clear. I have been kind of lurking on petfinder and craigslist to see what I see. I emailed one rescue, but did not get a response. Figure they probably have no females. I am very concerned about rescuing a craigslist piggy, because I want to be sure I do not end up with another pregnant one. I kept the babies last time, but 4 is my limit and I do not want to end up having to rehome babies. I would be too worried about where they were going. Anyway, if people would keep an eye out for me, or if anyone has a piggy in the Northeast PA region which they need to rehome and are sure she is not pregnant, I would love to have a buddy for Tess. I am unable to drive more than an hour due to some mechanical issues with my car, so I need to stay nearby. Otherwise, I would check into the Latrobe rescue. They seem to have a lot of piggies, but are 4 hours away. I understand that some people travel even further than that for piggies, but it is just not an option for me. |

I read another thread about someone placing a petfinder ad. When I do a search on petfinder would it bring up individuals trying to rehome their pets as well or does it just give shelter/rescue piggies? I wasn't sure if I had to search differently for the individual ones. |

Thank you, I have found a bunch of rescues. The big problem is the transporting. I am going to check into the distances of those you have given me. Thanks for your time. |

Well, I am still looking. I have found a few possibilites on Craigsluist, but as soon as I ask if males and females were housed together, the correspondence seems to end. I had one possibilty that seemed very promising. It was a person who had several pregnant guinea pigs, and finally learned how to properly seperate them after birth. They pretty much guaranteed me no pregnant sow. BUT someone ended up taking all of their piggies. I think they had 5 or 6 not sure which. She offered to seperate one girl; and give it to me, but I felt bad seperating a bonded group of 3 sows, so I declined. Anyway, I have another inquiry in now, so keep your fingers crossed I eventually find one. And if anyone hears of any in the NE area of Pennsylvania. I am near Wilkes Barre, please let me know. I can't drive more than an hour. Thanks so much! |

You can always contact the rescues and ask if they are willing to help with transportation. Even if they are not nearby, they may have foster families closer to you or volunteers who can help out with transporting the pigs. |

Be sure to go to Guinea Lynx :: A Medical and Care Guide for Your Guinea Pig and go to their forums. They have a Cavy Placement category and if you post there you might also find someone in your area to help you out. Cavy Trains are pretty common and people are often very happy to help get a pig to someone in search of one. Guinea Lynx :: Forum - Cavy Placement |

Oh and I almost forgot.. Craigslist has lots of ways that people put them up. Some put them in 'community under 'pets' and some list on 'for sale' so be sure to do a specific search for 'pig' as well as 'cavy' in the all community and all for sale sections. They hardly ever spell guinea pig right... |

The Luzerne County SPCA has 2 females! I can't go to see them until Sunday. I am so hoping they are still there when I go!!! They do not take online applications or I would fill one out and have them hold one for me. I am not picky about what it looks like or it's age. I hope it works out! |

I took one at the SPCA. They had 3 girls. 2 were in one cage and bonded, so we took the lonely one. She is eating and exploring as we speak. Adapting quite well to her new home. I hope intros go well in 3 weeks. |
