Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I have 2 baby guinea pigs that I recently took from my step brothers. They are about 3 months and in need of a new home, the male isn't neutered nor is the female. I tried keeping them in the same cage as my other 2 Guinea pigs but my oldest female is very dominant about her territory, she has fought with the male...many times. Any suggestions? |

If they are both unaltered you probably have a pregnant piggie on your hands. If your other pigs are unaltered they are also most likey prenant (or causing a pregnancy in the female) if they are living together. Males are fertile after 3 weeks, females generally around 4 weeks. Seperate your males and females immedietly! |

How about a guinea pig rescue and not just a run of the mill shelter? |

Do you know if I could still have updates on the piggies when they're adopted? |

Is the male removed from the females? High chance the females are already pregnant as stated above since you put them altogether. You either need to take better care of them or find a better home for them. Wanting regular updates will scare most people off. You should post in the adoption/placement forum here. Your post is in the wrong place. You can post ads at www.gpan.net and www.guineapighome.com too |

I just want to make sure that the guinea pigs are spayed/neutered because I don't want them to be getting bred. But thankyou very much for your help! |

Did the vet do an ultrasound then? Spaying/neutering is pretty expensive and can be risky. |

I'm afraid of getting my guinea pigs the ultrasound because I was told that if in case the female was pregnant the babies could be at risk of brain damage...(is this true?)The vet was most concern about the baby female and right away checked her... I told the vet that I would be taking the cavy's back in for another check up, should I tell him to give them the ultrasound? Do you think it would be better if I give away the cavys to separate homes? |

I would tell him to do the ultrasound next time you go in. I wouldn't give the ciavie to seperate homes. They do best in pairs and if you send them away seperate they might not ever get a buddy. The babies are adorable by the way! |

Well I think you'd be happy to know that the cavy's where given away to my aunt in Texas! Since my dad is a trucker they'll be arriving to their destiny in no day. I call my dad everyday and he tells me how happy they seem! The guinea pigs are separated in the cage and when they get to their new home my aunt said they have a divided home just for them! Cross fingers to a new home* |
