Chinchillas

We've taken in so many rescue chinchillas in the past year, that we just can't adequately house them all anymore. We've got a few that are starting to barber each other, due to overcrowding. So, with a heavy heart, we've decided to rehome a few, if we can find excellent homes for them.

Currently, I'm trying to place 2 girls. They are approximately 1 to 1.5 years old and 6 months old, respectively. They are friendly enough to come take a raising from you. The younger one will let you scratch her head, but the older is somewhat skittish. With daily handling, I'm sure they have the potential to be very sociable.

The girls are on a Mazuri pellet diet (though I hear Tradition is a very fine Chinchilla diet, as well), and they get either KM or Oxbow timothy or blue grass hay. I use Blue Cloud dust for them. filtered water, of course. I can send a small amount of these things with them, to transition them to their new home.

I would prefer that the girls go together, as they are bonded. I'd also prefer that they go to someone with chinchilla experience, if possible. And of course, they must go to an adult, as chinchillas are not appropriate pets for children.

You'll need to have your own cage prior to taking the girls. I would appreciate seeing the cage, to ensure it's adequate size and that it's safe (no wire bottoms, no plastic, etc.)

If you know anyone interested in a chinchilla in the DFW area, please point them this way.
