I just emailed this guy before I saw this post... Here was my reply to him: Hi saw your guinea pig ad on craigslist. I probably can’t take him, but you really ought to feed him more than grass (not even sure what you mean by “grass”.) He should have pellets and fresh timothy hay every day. And he should have leafy greens and oranges/strawberries regularly so he doesn’t become vitamin-deficient, he could have serious health problemsI haven't heard back from him. I am 5 minutes away. I don't know if I could keep him since I have 2 boars, one of whom is sick (vet thinks ear infection.) I also don't think I have space. I have a 3x2 C&C with an L-shape (3 grids) up top. My sick guy is on top and I have closed it off & taken away the ramp until he feels better. So as is, they are cramped from being separated!!! I don't know what to do. There was another in Mastic I wrote back to from CL. ADORABLE piggie! He was housed in what looked like a rabbit cage, right on the bare wire, and his owner was "re-homing" him and including "balls he runs around in" !!! I wish I had more room. |

Are you able to foster him Till you can find a good home I think He would be better off with you even if he's in a temp. smaller cage. Hopefully he found a good home already & isn't stuck there! |

He got back to me. This is his reply
"aquarium were I had my old snake" I don't know what to do. I have a 2x3 C&C with a ramp to the upper level which has a 3-grid L shape "loft" with a pigloo. I had to separate my 2 guys because one is sick and the other was beating him up. So now my poor little guy is upstairs which is obviously way too small for him. I'm already trying to solve that issue. I don't know what to do about this guy's piggie.![]() I wish I could take him in. I wrote him back and told him that I would like to help him find a new home... Suggestions? |

Found a rescue in Brooklyn. I am going to get him in there or maybe I can foster him if the guy doesn't have the space, until we find him a home. |

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rescue I thought I found rescues primarily REPTILES! As in guinea pig eaters... I didn't hear back from this guy yet anyway, and now I'm not sure I want to. I really need to find another home for him!!!!!! I'm thinking of maybe fostering him in the short-term, I don't know. He would have to share a 2x3 with Oscar and Iggy is still segregated on his top "floor" *sigh* |

...I took him in. I couldn't NOT do it! He is really REALLY sweet. The guy was calling him "MoFo" whcih I promptly shortened to "Moe" to go. I am steering clear of that animal rescue that has a reptile specialty, even though they have placed guinea pigs before. Just freaks me out. I found another rescue in Jersey that is all hamsters and guinea pigs. For now, Moe is with me! He needs to see a vet. I'm not sure how I will pay for it, my Iggy is still not feeling well. Right now Moe is separated from my other guys. He has a bad bald patch behind his ear and the kid who dropped him off said "when he scratches, it looks like that, when he doesn't it's white [fur]...he has always been like that" Ear mites maybe? I couldn't see anything in his ear but I am not a vet... The guy wasn't a bad person, just not knowledgable or committed I guess. He told me to give him back to him if I didn't want to keep him and i think he was a little sad when he left. But he was keeping him outside in a small glass aquarium and when he dropped him off I had a suspicion that the tray he delivered him in was the bottom of his cage... it was TINY! I must say that Moe is a friendly little guy... a real gem! And his has a funny little duck-butt! I will post pics. So I'll keep you all in the loop. If I can't find a home for him I guess I will have to move things around and build a bigger cage somehow... I am already thinking of how I am going to expand my setup for my 2 pigs (who fight) |

Thank you for helping this little guy. If you would like to send pictures I can post Moe on our website www.ctguineapigrescue.org We do get alot of inquiries for adoptions from the NYC area so it would give him exposure. I'd offer to take him, however, we are full right now and have several guinea pigs on the waiting list to come in. It is not unusual for guinea pigs to have bare spots behind their ears. Some are more noticeable than others. Check him over for signs of excessive dandruff, hair loss or scabs. Also watch for excessive scratching around the area. If you don't see any of those signs then he most likely does not have mites. |
