Question Adopting Piggies.

Well I was just wondering how much would it cost to adopt a guinea pig from a shelter? and do they usually have baby guinea pigs at shelters?

Re: Adopting Piggies.

Sometimes the shelters will have baby guinea pigs. I adopted my Brewster from a Mississippi shelter a little over 3 weeks ago and the adoption fee was $25. They estimated him to be about 6 months old, but he looks smaller to me than that and it looks like he still has a long way to grow into his big feet. Sometimes you will find babies at the shelters, but a lot of times they get adopted first since they are so cute and small.

I don't know if you have your heart set on a baby pig, but I have adopted older pigs as well and they can be so sweet. Babies are adorable and cute, but you cannot hold them and snuggle them because they are so fidgety and flighty being so young. My older boys are more laid back and enjoy a good snuggle and watching tv with me. Good luck with the baby you adopt!

Re: Adopting Piggies.

The shelter near me charges $10 for one and $15 for two. Try looking up your local humane societies web page or just call and ask.
Take care!

Re: Adopting Piggies.

That depends. I found my first two boys on Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. and adopted from an official piggie rescue, where they charged a fee of $30 dollars each to help with costs, and my third one I found on craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums and the lady was not charging a fee.

Re: Adopting Piggies.

My shelter charges a $10 adoption fee. Most of the time you will see older pigs for adoption, but I adopted a 4 week old boy a couple years ago.

The shelters around here are $10-$15. Rescues are $25-$30
