Can anyone help me find a piggy?

We have two pigs already and want to add another one. I really want a Peruvian or a Sheltie. I like the long haired ones. I don't want to buy from a breeder at all. But I can not seem to find one in a shelter or on craigslist (which is where I adopted the two I have now) You all might have a little more experience looking for them and might know of more places I can look. I live in north central Texas and I am willing to drive a little ways to get them. Thanks in advance.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

Go to Petfinder, put in your zip code and pick Small and Furry and then guinea pig, and it'll show you all the pigs near you, in order or nearest to farthest. Texas Rustlers Guinea Pig Rescue has a few longer haired piggies, and there are a couple at an animal shelter in Houston.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

The Peruvians in the shelter in Houston have actually been on there for a few weeks. Don't know if they are still there or not. I would contact your local rescue and tell them what you are looking for. Sometimes they don't have all their pigs listed on Petfinder or maybe they can put you on a list for the first ones they come across.

You could also put an add on CL for wanting long haired piggies. Maybe someone will contact you that hasn't put their own add up yet. That was the case with my last two I adopted.

Good Luck and keep looking for rescues an unwanted piggies. They are always somewhere to be found

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

Have you tried Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. or Guinea Pig Home - Home or Texas Rustlers Texas Rustlers Guinea Pig Rescue ? If they are not near you, maybe they know of pigs near you or can do a pig train.

*Update* Can anyone help me find a piggy?

*Update*

Thanks all for the help. I applied at the texas rescue place. But they said that they had no male peruvians. I only want one more guinea pig to add to my family and all the long hairs were female. They wouldn't let me have the female being that I have two males (understandable.) If I wanted the female I had to buy another one too. They are $25 each. Plus to get a guinea pig from them I have to bring my two guinea pigs to the place so they can put them in a play pen to see how they act. We would have to make 2 trips to the place. This place it 2 hours away from me. I live in Texas and it is very hot here. I dont want to put the piggys through that heat. Anyways one trip is to bring out our pigs and pick which one we want (see if they are compatible). We then have to go home and fix up a cage for it. Second visit was to pick up the pig.

I got approved on the basis that I will have to make a C&C cage for the pig before I can bring it home. My pigs arent in C&C cages yet. They sell C&C cages but I dont want to buy theirs. They do sell sheets of chloroplast for $12 a sheet, it will come in handy when I build the C&C cage. I am waiting on building it cause we are converting our garage to a pet room. When we are done I will build the cage. They said to contact them when I make the C&C cage.

So I was bummed most of the day. I surfed craigslist, cause I posted a want ad yesterday, to see if anyone had guinea pigs - no luck. I did come across two free bunnies though. I messaged the lady and she messaged back with the question " Are you going to eat them?" My heart sank. Who would want to eat the poor things. She said they several people that replied said they either wanted to eat them or feed them to something. I understand why now you should give away free animals to just anyone. So going to get them tomorrow *laughs* After she said that I couldnt just let them go to just anybody. Ill post pics in a few minutes. I still need names.

I know my peruvian male will come to me one day. Ill get one that really needs a home or one that came from a bad situation. I just need to be patient. But for now we have two new bunny children.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

Yes, please be patient. That's great of you to wait. I'm sure one or more will turn up. You know how people get with their pets.

Have you read up about rabbits at Rabbit References - Care, Feeding, Tips ?

I'd make a vet appt. for the two bunnies and have them checked out. Hopefully they are the same sex but either way, you want to look into neutering them. Especially if they are opposite sex. A female can pop out with babies pretty easily. Good luck and thanks for rescuing.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

Thanks for the link. Yes I will make a vet appointment soon. It seems to be vet time for most f my animals so they will fit right in. They are both males. If they arent fixed already (she didnt say if they were I didnt think to ask) should I get them fixed?

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

I would recommend NOT bringing home any pig until you do get your C&C cage put together, as it's going to be nearly impossible to get any 3 males to cohabitate in a pet store cage.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

If you would be interested, I have two great female pigs for adoption. Of course, this would require a complete separate cage. I do have a 3x4 (about) base and grids that could go with them.

You can email me if you are interstested and want to know more. wicked.pixi@yahoo.com

ETA: I am in Houston and could bring them to you if everything worked out. I would need to see that you have the proper living conditions, food, etc. and have you sign an adoption contract.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

Thanks but I am against the whole "Let me come in your house and look around" thing not to be rude but I dont let anyone I dont know in my house I dont care what for. I have animals already, they have two rooms just for them and they go to the vet often. I have no kids and I am at home all the time. So If I cant adopt an animal based on that then I dont guess Ill adopt them. Even the Rescues dont drive all the way to your house to see what it looks like. Plus you live like 8 hours away from me. But thanks for the offer. And sorry for being so strict about people coming in my house but thats just me.

Re: Can anyone help me find a piggy?

I don't necessarily need to come to your house. Pictures of the living conditions before and after would suffice.

I could come part, or all of the way, depending. What city are you in?
