| My Name Is Benson
"Hello. My name is Benson, and I'm an 8-year-old, white, Havanese-mix dog, looking for a new home. My owner died about 6 months ago from cancer, and she didn't make any long term plans for me. Since then, I have been living with her son and daughter-in-law, but since I give the daughter-in-law severe hives, I've been confined to the backyard and the kitchen, with occasional outings and my daily walks.
I'm very lonely, as I'm a sociable fella, so I'd really like to find a family who'd love to have me join in all the family activities. It really sucks watching the family through a gate or the glass door.
I'm a sweet dog, if I do say so myself. I'm house broken; in fact, I'll hold it all day until you get home to let me out. If you are home, and don't hear me scratching on the door, I'll bark to let you know I need to go out. That's one of the few times I bark - I'm not really a big conversationalist. I do get very excited when I see squirrels and strangers in the yard, though, so I like to share that with you.
I love other dogs, and I get along pretty well with cats, though the cats I currently live with don't like me for some reason. Oscar bats my nose every time he walks by for no good reason, which hurts my feelings, and Emmy, well she just taunts me by prancing back and forth in front of my gate. I'm very gentle with children - I don't really jump on anyone, and I never bite.
I'm also not a chewer, so all of your shoes and furniture are safe. I can walk on a leash, but I've never been trained to do fancy tricks, like "heel" or "shake." I think dogs that do that are just showing off, honestly.
There are so many good things about me - I hope that someone will consider giving me a chance to be part of their family. I miss my original "mommy" for she was very good to me and loved me very much. I don't quite understand what happened; one day she was just gone and now here I am, looking for a new place to live.
Hopefully, the daughter-in-law will post some pictures of me, so you can see for yourself what a handsome guy I am.
