Smile May have found a pair...

On a hunch, I went over to craigslist tonight, and found a couple of listings. I just sent an email to one (the other requested phone calls only). Going by the pictures and the wording of the listing, the current owner knows some--there were carrots in the picture, and a hay feeder come with the cavies. The main thing that worries me is that the listing says they're both females, but one may be pregnant

Re: May have found a pair...

That's what I'm thinking. I asked the person why s/he thinks one of the piggies might be preggie, if they're both female. Maybe if I get an answer back, I could send a link to a good sexing site--like the Cavy Spirit one!

Re: May have found a pair...

OK--turns out they had a male at one time, so that's how the one might be pregnant. The piggies are a mother/daughter pair. The lady says that they have been loved, but due to some changes, she no longer has the time to care properly for the piggies, and wants them to have a loving home, and asked me to tell her a bit about myself, which I did. I'm awaiting a reply.

How well do guinea pigs handle a name change? I'm not overly fond of their current names, though I could live with the names. Are they like dogs or cats in that there will be confusion for awhile, but then it's fine, or do they have no clue that those particular sounds mean that their attention is wanted, so it doesn't really matter?

I don't think the piggies notice a name change....it's more like they hear your voice and start wheeking....also hearing a plastic bag....I say rename them...I've renamed a couple that I have adopted...

That's what I sort of thought. Of course, since I haven't had a reply to yesterday's email, I'm checking my email rather obsessively LOL

Re: May have found a pair...

I got an email tonight, and, once my husband and I are awake enough tomorrow to figure out schedules, I'll be emailing the current owner, and we'll be heading down to pick up a 1 year old and 8 month old mother-daughter pair this weekend.
