Question Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Hey all,

Now that I have my custom cage up I am looking for a freind for my jiggi. )( cinnamon )( I've been looking around on craigslist, on here, newspaper, etc for guineas near me and I've seen many in other states but none in virginia. )( This has only been the third week I've been looking )( I only have my learners and my mother just thinks I'm crazy for building him a giant cage and feeding him GOOD food instead of the cheap stuff so I can't drive much to get a guinea.

My qustion is that does anyone know anyone or can help me find and transport a buddy for jiggi? I don't have enough space to build any bigger to acomadate more than two male guineas. I've seen handsome boys in maryland, and pa but I don't trust myself driving with a animal in car.

Asria
ps- Yes I've been on craigslist, newpaper, and the fairfax three hour high way shelter NEAR me. If I could drive better, I would be there in a heart beat. I have been driving alot to get my 40 hours in order to get my lisence. I just hate thinking how lonely my boy is when i head out for school.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

You should check with one of the two guinea pig rescues in VA:

Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue

Cave Spring Piggie Rescue

They will be able to assist you in transporting or adopting a friend.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

I can't remember if I've referred you to my site yet or not, but I run a database of guinea pigs available for adoption here: Adopt a Guinea Pig in VA/MD/DC it includes VA/DC/MD.

And thumbs up for the MGPR suggestion--I foster for them and they're great! We also have a ton of boars right now. I know Cave Spring has a bunch of boars right now too, and it's run by super nice people.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Okay well heres what i found

Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue dossn't adolpt out to people who have animals living outside. I have two bunnies in a hutch outside.

The cave spring rescue place is nearly four hours away. I hear stories all the time about people who have drove across the country to rescue someone so I feel realy crappy thinking of how much a woos i am.

The norfolk one has two guineas I like but they talk about coming out to visit them and I'm at that driving terror again. )( two hours on four lane highways away and were not going my sisters who lives that way anytime soon.)(
Good news tho well sorta good news. My sister might come down for chrismas so maybe I can ask her to apply for the adolption etc etc.

Still, Could yall look out for people in maybe fredrickburg in virginia that could transport a guinea pig? Or anywere near Colonial Beach? king george, staffford. I could drive somewhat that way.
)( realy crapy town in the middle of no were )( Pm me or something?

Asria

Wish me luck! :hugs:

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

It's very dishonest to have your sister apply for a guinea pig that you want. Rescues have criteria for adopters for a reason -- they want the best for the animals in their care.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Please do not have your sister apply on your behalf. That's deplorable. Adopt from an individual who doesn't have the same high standards as a rescue, but don't fool a rescue in to adopting to you indirectly. Maybe a better solution would be to bring your rabbits indoors. Rabbit rescues and other animal rights groups are completely against rabbits living outdoors.

When I was six our rabbit lived outdoors in a hutch. A pitbull attacked him through the walls, and when we next saw our rabbit he was filled with maggots. I realize that's a stark image, but it's a common occurrence because people insist on keeping rabbits outdoors. I wish my family hadn't. No more outdoor pets after that though.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Why do your rabbits live outdoors? Hutch rabbits live a poor quality life. I suggest you alter your custom cage a bit and move your rabbits indoors. Don't get anymore pets if you can't care for the ones you have properly.

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Have you checked Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten.

I hope that you will reconsider housing your rabbits outside. Rabbits make wonderful house pets. Please take a look at the below sites for some great rabbit info:

House Rabbit Society Rabbit Care Guide

Re: Looking for a male guinea Transported/Train

Anyway this is me again.

I didn't mean to sound like was trying to deseave the adolption service. I re read my post and I felt awfull.

Using my sister is horrid so I think I'm going see if my sister would pick the guinea up if I do call them and ask them about the guineas. If they don't allow him to be picked up than I'll try to think of something else. I didn't mean to sound like a horrid person. When i type I think and plan. Than i latter revise it. You should of saw my first post on my cage idea. The responder couldn't even read what I was saying. So no scaming but I will try to figure out a way to adolpt.
Ps- I'm switching my foodlion card to the norfolk rescue, and my mothers to a nother. It'll give them money and such.

Now here comes the big thing over rabbits outside.

I know I know it's horrid to keep rabits outside. I've heard the stories, I've known the people, but I can't do Anything untill I ether move or go to college.

I got them three years ago when we had just moved from the trailor park to the waterfront here. The hutch was over my brothers girlfreinds house and she had this inpulse to go out and get two free bunnys from a guy who housed his bunnys outside in condos with food feeders and fresh warm and cold water pipes that drained and refilled the rabits bowls hourly. The guy built the cages by scratch for his first rescue. All the cages were connect to be able to split to divide if one rabbit dossn't like enough.

I didn't think and so we got a black and white babby bunny from two different bunnys. The parents came to him after the owners no longer wanted them. Yes I do blame him for mis sexing the bunnys and end up having two out of the four bunnys that had came to him pop out
babbys.

Durring the time I went to school I would feed them and care for them before and after school and than I started going over every other day durring the summer since I got a job. My brothers girlfreind was supose to help suport the rabits as a joint custody type thing. I know i know. Realy stupid idea. I learned.

Everything started right after school ended when they weren't babbies anymore. Every other day or two days go and miss the next because of work, I would paddle my conoe over and spend my time with them. The first things I noticed was that the waters hadn't been refilled nor have they been giving new food. I usualy kept three days worth of veggies over their place for when I work too late and they had the food so there shouldn't of been a problem with food. Second was that the food that I parted in haft and haft for was always late. They would be eating veggies and grass for two days untill she went out and bought food or I got fed up and had to buy the food even after I gave her ten dollors for a 20 dollor big bag of food that lasted a month.
It was like now that they weren't cute and cudely she just didn't give a crap about them!
The last straw was when me and my mom went away for two weeks. I gave her forty bucks plus all of whats left of that weeks vegies. I get back to find the bunnys with bone dry bottles, and bowls empty. I picked them up and I could pull back there skin without it retracting normaly. I grabed our dog crate from the grauge. )( We still hadn't moved everything to the other place across the river. two minits by conoe, five by car)( and packed them up. By the end of the day I had the hutch home cleaned out and the bunnys running around in a make shift pen untill I got my wire.
I now have a fenced in area for them to run in on good days when i'm at home, and I take them inside on bad days. Other than that, yess they are in there cage. I still try to take them out as much as possible and let them run around with the dogs. No my bunnys aren't scared of the dogs, Yess i watch them, Yess my bunnys are biggger than my dogs.

Anyway the point is that I did not now any better, got the bunnys, fought over them from my brothers girlfreind that I STILL blame for alot of things.)( She keeps getting dogs and than sending them to a pound that kills them within a week. No one beleaves the short teenager in the background!)( and now I have them.

My plan is that when I get out of high school In a years time I am ether going to move out to an apartment that allows animals and go to college/Just plain move to suport myself and be able to have let my bunnys be free roam bunnies, and my guinea in big cage.

I also just got too thinking about maybe making my guinea have one big floor with a level and my bunnys have a two panel high four foot long cage for when I'm not here and free roam like they have when I bring them inside. Any ideas on how I can make that possible?

Also! My bunnys are males and they don't fight but when I put them together all they do is try to hump each other over and over. Reason why I split up my hutch in the first place. They would hump, bite and end up giving each other bald spots. Have any ideas on what i should do other than leting them have one inside time the other outside time and than switching the day after?

If I can get the job I want, I was thinking on finacing getting my boys fixed so they can finaly live together again. but that might not be for a couple of months..

ASRIA
