This guinea pig is in a HORRIBLY small cage, what looks like a 10 gallon aquarium. She must be going nuts in there. Now the owner wants to dump her on some other ignorant person. I cannot take her. I have two un-neutered males in a huge cage in a small apartment. No room for more. She is located in St. Francis, WI. FREE GUINEA PIG |

Oh man and she says her name is Snuggles, then calls her "this animal" . I have two un neutered boys too or I'd probably take her.. I live close enough. I have a huge cage but no more room for another. |

So aweful, the poor little thing. Maybe someone can call and make sure the 'sellers' know that they are NOT good pets for small children (as it says in the post). I wish I was closer, I would take her in until I could rehome her. Another reason why I try to keep away from Craigslist, there are SO many on there! |

I see ignorant people on craigslist in my area, too, trying to get rid of guinea pigs and all kinds of other small animals. It's so heartbreaking, I don't even go there anymore since I can't take in any more pets right now anyway. Sure hope someone will take her in that will really love her and care for her properly. |

Well I sent her an INFORMATIVE email, not "nasty" as she claimed and here is her response (my email to her is the one on the bottom) Hi! That ad on craiglist is only for people interested in the Guinea Pig. Not a advice column for people who run their own home zoos. Do not email us nasty emails with advice that we dont need. We have both had guinea pigs all our lives and know how to care for them. Post that XXX on the rants and raves. After this has been sent you will be blocked! Wow that poor piggy. Oh course I would take ehr if space and distance wasn't an issue but both are. Maybe like wicked said someone could call the shelter and inform them about her. Maybe they would be(the shelter) willing to take her in or something. At least there you may get a home quicker and she would be cared for. She really does look like a sweetheart though. |

Honestly, if I received and email saying that something I was doing was "crappy", I'd probably send you a rather upset email back myself. I appreciate what you're trying to do, educating a pet owner on proper housing, but you seriously need to learn some tact and how to talk to people. Insulting someone does absolutely nothing except make them mad. |

Heck if I didn't live in PA, i'd take her in, I'd find the space. I just emailed a person on craigslist who was looking for someone to donate a 24x32 inch cage for 2 pigs he/she just adopted. I made some suggestions and referred them to this site and to guinea lynx-hey....anytime I find a chance to offer some good advice on piggy care I let'm know it...just want to be an advocate. |

I have to agree with Percy's mom, I know you meant well, but some people may get intimidated easily. I try to find the positive aspects and build on that. The moment they feel they're being criticized, they block everything else out. |

I find it funny that she said she cant keep snuggles because shes having a child and then later on in the ad said that snuggles would be great for children. Wish I was in the same country. |

I only called the CAGE itself "crappy" other than that I never once accused her of being a bad owner. If a person is that put out by an ITEM being called crappy, I'd say they had a problem. I can gaurantee you that she would have responded that way even if I sugar-coated my advice to the nth degree. For being extremely INsenitive to the needs of her piggie, she's mega-sensitive to anyone trying to be helpful. Sorry I posted before removing the swear words. I completely overlooked that. |

If you are serious about adopting the pig I would email using another email- maybe another family members, or just a new one and ask again. This time just tell them that you are interested in adopting the pig- dont get into details. The main thing is to get the pig out of there, Im sure, since they are giving the pig up, they really don't care about the conditions she is housed in. I doubt they would chance it since they don't even want her. |
