Question Looking to rescue, first time...questions!

Im looking to adopt some piggies at a shelter. My first time adopting and I was wondering what do you usually need? Im young but of age and was wondering if that will affect being approved? What do I need to bring with me at the shelter? Im going pritty far and dont want to get there and them tell me oh you need this and this and then I dont have it. I just want to be prepared for this any help would be appreciated!

I would call the shelter but they are closed till tue: and I just cant wait to ask all the questions and find out. And here is the best place cause many people have adopted.

Re: Looking to rescue, first time...questions!

Each shelter might have specifics, so you should call. But the basics here are identification with your picture and current address, and the adoption fee, and to fill out a question sheet and have an interview done with the staff. Some shelters might want a letter from your landlord saying you are allowed pets, or if you own your own home, some ask for a copy of the deed as proof you own it. I would take a carrier and leave it in your car, so if you are approved, you have your own otherwise you will get one of the cardboard box ones.

You will probably need character references, too- so get the name and # for your vet and your boss, or other non-family people that can vouch for you as a good owner.

Well just be honest and tell the shelter that. I am sure they will understand. Also if you don't have any animals now, or just moved there and don't have a vet yet, sometimes they just ask if you know of a vet you will use.

Re: Looking to rescue, first time...questions!

I am glad that you are wanting to rescue instead of buying from a petstore. Do have a good C&C cage all set up and ready to go? If not please get that in order before you go and adopt the pigs. Also make sure you have some money set aside in case you need to make a trip to the vet.
