Looking at bonded pair...

I just saw the cutest bonded pair(at least, I think they are.) My questions are:
1) It's on Craig's list, how do I know I'm not dealing w/ a breeder?
2) What do I need to look for/ask
3) It's a male/female pair, the male is neutered. However, my Bashful isn't neutered. I'm looking for a friend for him, but will it do him any good just to be near the others since I can't put him w/ the female, or should I solely look for males?
4) Any other advice/things I should know.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking at bonded pair...

I have heard that bad things can happen with two males and a female(s) together. Someone more educated will be along shortly to back me up or prove me wrong.

Re: Looking at bonded pair...

I believe on the cavy spirit webpage that it says that even closely bonded males will fight over a female, sometimes with catastrophic results. In my personal experience, the males did get more touchy when the females were near. I wouldn't have two males in a cage with the females for this reason, and also the poor female would just get humped to death.

And if you want to know whether or not your dealing with a breeder, ask. They'll probably tell you straight up if they are.

Definately do not have the two males with the one female together. It will not end good. They will fight over the female and then if yours isn't neutered(the one you already have) he will get her pregnant. I would stick to only getting boars or is you want sow get your neutered then adopt girls.

Re: Looking at bonded pair...

I've been on a bit of information overload lately. I was definitely not going to house the female with the one I have, definitely don't want babies. Oh, well. These two made me sad, and my son was practically hitting me over the head. the pic shows they're both in a single pet store cage, and it seems to be an attic area or something not finished. If anyone in the area is looking, they're on craig's list:

If you are in SD, Wee Companions, the San Diego GP rescue can help you match your boar up.
