Oshawa I always go to the same pet valu to buy my animal food. Last night, when i made a stop to get some treats for my kitties they made a comment about guinea pigs. Someone just came in and basically Dropped off 4 8 week old guineas At there store. I always commend this particular location, they make an effort to get any sort of animal adopted out. The clerks are all compassionate with any sort from rabbits, to kittens , to guinea pigs. When i left there, they had 3 more to find homes for. I have often talked about my "herd" so they asked me if i'd like another guinea pig. Sooo charlie is now at home with me. heehee. I just wanted to post this, incase anyone in the Oshawa/Whitby area was considering adopting new piggies.

Re: Oshawa Just something to keep in mind - if there are any females in the group, it's entirely possible they are pregnant. Also, are you aware of the need to quarantine any new piggie you take in delilah'smom?

Re: Oshawa i adopted the only male. This is the pet valu @ the kendalwood plaza. they had 3 females wheni left there last night. Charlie is currently in his own cage until i can make sure nothing is wrong with him and he's healthy. They are cute. It does show they haven't been given the most hands on attention. So it shall be interesting

Re: Oshawa I guess at that age there is no way to tell if they are pregnent... What to do? Any suggestions on where to get another young female that is NOT pregnant in the Durham area? We got Dalilah from PJ's at the Pickereing Town Centre, and I don't want to do that again.

Re: Oshawa I don't think there is a way to tell for sure this early. I"m not sure how far along she'd need to be for an ultrasound or an xray to show any babies. You would basically be taking your chances on whether the girl you choose is pregnant or not. I already have 7 piggies but I am highly tempted - even if a female ended up being pregnant. I am trying to be realistic here - but it's tough knowing those poor babies are all alone and need someone to care for them!!! You should check out some of these places for piggies in your area: Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. Kijiji Oshawa Classifieds: Free Classified Ads for Oshawa (you can change it to other cities if you want to look further away too) Guinea Pig Home Listings - Main Index You can also put an ad in the paper, or on bulletin boards around town. Call local vets who deal with guinea pigs - they might know of someone looking to rehome baby piggies. You must have a shelter/humane society close by as well - check there. I'm sure you could leave your name and have them contact you if they take in a young female. Good luck!

Re: Oshawa i gave my time at the humane society last Saturday. They have bunnies and guinea pigs. they DO have females, who are cages together but must be adopted out together. I think if memory serves 3 were in that cage.

Re: Oshawa ohhhh, 3! Well I think I will only be able to squeeze one more now, so that's probably not an option.... I'll check pet finder and such.... Wish me luck!

Re: Oshawa May I ask what kind/colour they are? Not that it matters as they're all cute but it may help me convince my husband to get another piggie right now instead of waiting! Our piggie, Molly, is lonely! Not sure he'll go for it right now though as we're rescuing a kitten too. We found her strayed and took her to the shelter and told them to call if she didn't get picked up. Well she didn't get picked up so we're gonna have another new family member soon! We so need a bigger house!
