Have you looked on petfinder.com, craiglist, and other local newspapers? Also check for signs up at your local petstores, there are usually alot of people hanging up signs to rehome their piggies. |

Daphne I have to run out but I did a quick search, this group is a bit far from you (140 miles) but I would email them and tell them your situation and ask about guinea pigs in your area and ask if they have a way to meet you half way or something like that. They should be able to give you shelter or rescue locations that are in your area. Remember if you end up wanting one of their pigs then you will have to fil out adoption applications and pay a small fee. I have found that the rescue people are usually very nice when you explain that you do not want to buy from a petstore and want to adopt. I am sure there are piggys somewhere near you that are in need of a home, we just need to find them. I'll be back later today and I will continue to help you look. ]Amiable Animals Rescue Email: amiableanimals@nycap.rr.com |

See, the thing is I don't have a car. Well, I have a deathmobile that gets me to the store here in town and back. I have Narcolepsy, which is a really bad sleeping disorder, so I don't drive further than in town. So that makes it a little harder. If it were local my mother or my boyfriend would drive me, but I know they're not easily willing to drive a long distance. My boyfriend might, but he works a LOT so I'd feel bad asking him. But, I would if it came to it. So I'll try to contact them, and again I appreciate your help!! -Dot (Daphne's my pig, but I think you already knew that!) |

Here are some more places to check Dot They may not have guinea pigs today but if you are patient and check the animal listings every day I promise you that they will get guinea pigs. I check the animal listings of my local shelter every day and they get guinea pigs every month. Sometimes they will get a whole bunch that owners just dump off. Just be patient and keep on looking, I think too many people give up too soon and just think " I looked, there aren't any" My question to them would be, "how long did you look? where did you look? did you check EVERY shelter/rescue in your area?" There are more guinea pigs in need of homes than there are people willing to give them homes, so please do not give up the search! Hello The second site you sent is the one I called about...and she said they only take dogs and cats I also have been keeping an eye on the Malone one, and I think I'll give them a call on Tuesday just to see if they might have a pig just not have it listed. |

Please also try this site that I run, Adopt a Guinea Pig in PA/NJ/NY/WV . It's a site for guinea pig adoption in NY,PA,NJ, and WV. I also run another site, Adopt a Guinea Pig in VA/MD/DC , for MD/DC/VA . I cull my listings from Petfinder, Petharbor, shelter and rescue webites, Guinea Pig Adoption Network, Guinea Pig Home, Craigslist, and other sources, so it's pretty convenient. Just search by state using the labels on the sidebar. |

Great! Let me know if you find a guinea from there; I feature Happy Adoption Stories every now and then and I'd love to feature someone who got their guinea pig from the site. Good luck finding your guinea pig, wherever he or she may be! |

Maybe ya'll can help me! I have checked Petfinder and Craigslist, no piggies in my area. I've never even heard of shelters in my area with piggies. Always your common cat or dog. My zip is 70058. I would like a bonded pair, same sex of course. |

Try petharbor.com too. That can be unpredictable as far as results, but a lot of shelters post on there that don't post on petfinder. I find Animal Control orgs. posting on there more, so the pigs are really in need. |

Nope nothing there either. I found one thru google that is about 20 minutes from me, but they are connected to Petfinder when I click on adoptables. I did get a phone number though. Voodoopoint is in my area and I sent them an e-mail, hopefully they can help me. |

Any luck? Another neat thing is that you can sign up with Petfinder to be updated when new guinea pigs come in near your area. It's a really convenient feature. |

Goodness I wish some of you were in my area, there are 6 piggies at a shelter 20 min from me, 3 of them babies!!! and there are a ton more in LA area shelters. For any of you out there wanting to adopt, and I can't say this enough, please please be patient and KEEP LOOKING. It may take some time but eventually there will be a pig somewhere in your area that needs a home. I also suggest if you find a pig that is a little far from you, an hour or two, try arranging a "piggy train". You can post here and on GL and there might be people willing to help get the pig to you. Just be patient and you will find a pig or two. If you are persistant and want to rescue bad enough then it will happen! |

I'd like to tell everyone my experience. Maybe in January or something, I was looking for a friend for Pretzel, who was alone then. I checked petfinder with no luck. I thought that there were no guinea pigs in my area at all. My mom had called up the Humane Society with no luck. My mom and I went to Petco and bought Skunky. A few months later, I check on Petfinder and find a bunch of guinea pigs near me. A month or two ago, I found out that the Humane Society was over-loaded with guinea pigs. |
