Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I am stuck in a bind here. I called the SPCA about Shortcake and Shnitzel to see if they were good friends because I don't want to adopt one of them and leave the other companionless. The women said they were both in the same cage and that someone brought them in because they had too many. She said they were great friends and were sleeping together just then. So I don't know what to do. If I adopt one of them, then I will leave the other one there and feel really bad. However, if I don't adopt them then, they will be left there and someone else would adopt one if not both and maybe not take care of them as well. I just have no clue what to do. Right now I don't care about getting one or not, I just want to do what's right for the poor little guineas. |

If they are truly bonded, I wouldn't take one without the other. |

So you can't possibly get both? If they are bonded and you don't want to leave one then I agree with susan, don't get any at all. |

Thanks, I'll try to coax my mom. If that doesn't work then I'll wait for another female to come by a shelter. |

I hope the shelter doesn't split them up but it sounds like they would. I agree, I would take one without the other. |

So I probably should take one of them considering they will be split up? I know two more is out of the question. |

I don't know if I agree with the philosophy of doing something not right just because something worse may happen. If I were in your position, I would explain to the shelter about bonding and why you don't want to separate the pigs. Perhaps they will listen to you and list the pigs as "bonded pair, must be adopted together only." Even if they don't listen to you, I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for splitting up a bonded pair. |

Thanks for clarifying. I'll be sure to call and make the suggestion to them later. |

You could try what susan suggested by trying to explain to the shelter why the piggies should not be split up. Then you could keep an eye out, and if they do end up splitting them up anyways, you could at least take the second piggie. If they get adopted together, that's great, and you can wait for a single piggie to come in, or maybe you could get a baby from someone who's sow had a litter. |

Good News! I called and they were adopted together by a woman yesterday! It lifts a huge weight off of my chest because now I know they weren't/aren't going to be split up! |

Oh, that's great. I'm so glad they were adopted together. |
