Looking for a boar in NC

Hello!

We will soon be seeking a young boar in the Triangle area of North Carolina. We're settling in with our new adoptee but would like him to have a pal in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

The Orange County shelter has baby pigs, and the Wake SPCA has pigs in, as well as Raleigh Rodent Rescue in Raleigh. (BTW, Hi! I'm right outside Cary!)

Those are the babies at the Orange County shelter. I'd be happy to meet you out there and help double check sex if you'd like me to, they're not great with their small animal care (if you notice the cedar).

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

Oh good lord those are cute. I might take you up on that...

How long should I let my current adoptee settle in before I add another?

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

Yeah, they're pretty ridiculously adorable. Must... resist....

It really depends on the pig. I'd quarantine these little guys anyway, so even if you adopted immediately, there'd be a 2-3 week wait while making sure they weren't carrying anything.

Oh... cool! How does one quarantine? And what is the fee there?

Thanks again.

Quarantine is basically keep them by themselves for a few weeks to make sure they're not harboring any nasty viruses or parasites.

I don't remember off the top of my head what their fees are, if I remember right it's between $15-25. I've got a call in to my friend who works there to double check for me, though.

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

That's great! I need to go out towards that area tomorrow anyway to buy some pet supplies from Phydeaux, I'll see if I can stop by and sex them while I'm in that area.

Ooo, what's Phydeaux???

And I really appreciate you doing that, as you can probably guess I lack confidence in my ability to sex them, LOL.

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

Phydeaux is a pet supply store in Carrboro... they sell Oxbow pellets and hay, but also dog food, flea and tick stuff, cat stuff, etc, but it's all really good quality stuff.

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

I went to sex these guys for you this morning, and the shelter had put them into a pet store in Mebane for potential adoption. My friend who works there will give me the name/address on Monday if you want to drive out that far.

The Wake County SPCA has a pair of boy pigs named Batman and Robin at their Garner adoption site, and 3R Rescue has a few as well. I'll get more info on the babies to you as soon as I know something

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

Dang, I just drove right through Mebane. I'm actually not all that far from there. I'll go check our 3R right now.

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

I got all the way to Chapel Hill, got lost at least 3 times (I hate driving there) and decided that trying to get to Mebane might be pushing it!

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

Please do look into 3R! I adopted my boar from there! They are good people and very helpful.
By the way, greetings from Roanoke Rapids!

Hey, I was in Roanoke Rapids 2 weeks ago picking up my new car! We should have an NC Cavy Cagers get together!

Re: Looking for a boar in NC

bumpity!

Still need a young baby boar. I've been in contact with some rescues and they all seem to have only females. If anyone has any leads please LMK.
