Wanting another GP

I started off with one female piggy and after about 6 weeks I got another female piggy. They paired off pretty well, though the first piggy is still letting the other piggy know that she is top piggy. I would like to get another piggy but I am not sure when I should do this. Would it be safe to introduce another female now or should I wait?

Re: Wanting another GP

How long have you had the second one? I think I would wait until everyone has adapted to the current situation before getting a third.

Re: Wanting another GP

Terekins, I have had the newest one for about 2 weeks now. If I do decide on another female should I get one that is older or younger than the 2 I have now. My first piggy I am not sure of her age but my second piggy, who I named Miss Piggy is about 11 weeks old.

Re: Wanting another GP

With sows, the ages are not usally as important as with boars. Since Miss Piggy is SO young though, I would personally give it another month or so, let her get used to everyone and let the whole household get used to the pigs. Waiting would probably also be a good idea since your pigs are still establishing dominance.

Re: Wanting another GP

Thanks for the great advise. About how long does it take to complete their dominate behavior?

Re: Wanting another GP

Once things are sorted out (usually one settles as the dominant one, the other(s) as less dominant) they should be fine, and this can all figure itself out during introductions. I think sows also become a little more aggressive/touchy when they're in heat. There is lots of good info on this forum in regard to introductions, good luck
