Finally became a foster parent - and pigs for adoption in Twin Cities, MN

Hey Everyone,

I finally took the plunge and became a guinea pig foster parent! I had been reading on guinea lynx about these pigs in WI that needed help and I was relieved to see that someone else had gone and gotten them. It wasn't a day later that I saw some more pigs that needed help. I thought "Oh no, who's going to help them?", since apparently the shelter was willing to put them down. Then I saw a post with Twin Cities Guinea Pig Rescue about the need for foster homes. I thought, "well, I could just ignore it and come up with excuses about why now isn't a good time, or instead of praying that someone else will help out the next batch of needy pigs, I could volunteer to help the situation." So, long story short, I'm now a foster mom and have had my little foster pigs for just over a month now. So, on to the pigs...

My foster pigs are Abby and Maddy. They are two very bonded sows and must be adopted out together. They probably were handled roughly by young children in their previous home, and are still struggling a bit with human hands. They have come leaps and bounds here with being skittish, and I know they would improve even more in a loving forever home.

Since arriving here, they have fallen in love with veggies (lettuce, parsley, peppers, cilantro, and carrots are the favorites), so the way to their hearts is definately through their stomaches. I have used the veggies to bribe them into a longer lap time, or to show them that good things can come from human hands. Their personalities have really come through here, and they are very funny little pigs.

Abby has learned to scream at me if she wants something. Usually, she screams for more hay. One time, she squawked at me, but had plenty of hay. When she became more insistent, I filled her hay bin anyway. She stopped screaming and tootled off. Oh, and no, she didn't eat any hay. She just walked off to do something else. Maddy is learning from Abby and has begun to yell at me too, so they will keep any new pig slave on their toes, but also constantly laughing at their antics as well!

These are really two great girls, so anyone looking for a couple of sows to join their house should check these two out! Please note however, they can not go to a home with children under 10 due to their past history.

Anyone interested should contact Twin Cities Guinea Pig Rescue at:

Here is Abby and Maddy's new photo album. They have some great pics! Unfortunately, these two sweeties are still waiting for their forever home, but they know that if they are patient, that perfect person will come along soon. Maybe it's you!

It looks like Abby and Maddy have found a forever home! I'm so happy for them, they really deserve it. Watch this thread as I will continue to post pigs I'm fostering that are looking for their forever homes.
