I need to find a good home for these 3 cuties!

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to find a good home for these three little babies, here is the story behind it so you are all aware:

Last year I went to the pet store to buy dog food. My daughter and I walked through the section where the guinea pigs were and one caught our eye, she seemed lonley, she was in a cage with quite a few others and she just seemed sad. My daughter and I both stopped and looked at each other. We asked for her to be taken out of the cage and we both held her, she was so gentle, so loving, I had to get her out of there. Lilly came home with us. Not long after that we were in a different pet store and the same thing happened, I said if she is a girl we will take her, she was a girl and Milly came home with us.

They are both great GREAT piggies, we play with them all the time, and they love to be out with us! I now know from reading up that going through a pet store is not what is recommended, but I could not leave them there, my heart broke for them both when I saw them.

Fast forward say about 64 days, yup you guessed it, Lilly was HUGE, could no longer fit in her igloo, but she was happy as always. I moved Billy (who used to be Milly till we discovered she had a Willy!) to his own cage and Liily had a great pregnancy. She had 4 healthy big babies - and darn cute! I took them to the vet at 3 weeks and we determined the sex of all the babies, 3 boys and one girl. I kept three and the vet tech took one for her daughter!

I told the Vet that I read on the internet that I should take the babies out at 3 weeks because the male ones could breed with the Mom as early as that I sure did not want that, she assured me that I could not let them leave Mom until 6 weeks at the earliest. I now know I should have gone with my instinct.

Two weeks ago I came home and my daughter called me and said "Mom you better come in here" I go into the pig Pen room and in the cage with Lilly and Hannah are 5 TINY babies, and then I see it out of the corner of my eye, one of the babies is dead on the other side of the cage.. I don't know if this is possible, but I think one of the boys from the first litter may have gotten Lilly pregnant the second time, is that possible?

I immediatley removed the dead baby, and cleaned the cage. Over the next week I lost two more babies, and the surviving three are doing great! They are eating and getting big.

I would like to find good homes for these three ( I think 2 boys and a girl) as I have the 5 already and 2 dogs and a cat. I want them to have a happy life and I dont feel like I can take on anymore without taking away from all of them in one way or another.

I am located in New Fairfield, CT.

Here there are:

Yeah he probably impregnated mom. I hope he didn't impregnate his sisters too? They can breed at 3-4 weeks.

The only other girl in the cage was Hannah (from Lillys first pregnancy) and she is not pregnant.

I have not had much luck finding a home for them...I am going to re- do the cages this weekend, so next week I can seperate the babies until I can find them a home. I found a cavy rescue in CT that will take them, do you think that is a good or bad idea?

I hope target has some of the squares thta I can add to the cage to make it a compound for the my babies!!

Re: I need to find a good home for these 3 cuties!

I have been in touch with this rescue & I am impressed they are who I donate to when I can. Anyone in or near Connecticut please check out their web site. Connecticut's Guinea Pig Rescue Organization - The Critter Connection, Inc Applicants for adoption must know how to care for their pets, adopt in bonded pairs & supply a C&C cage. This is where my future piggies will come from. Unfortunately I can't take your babies as I have nine piggies of my own. Best of luck.
