Guinea Pigs at a ZOO!

Hello everyone! My attention was just brought to a large amount of Piggers at the Austin (TX) Zoo. I had emailed the Guinea Pig rescue of Austin and told I would find some there. Well I am going up there today to go check out their conditions and maybe get some off their hands. If anyone is the Austin or Central Texas area who is looking or is will to foster some piggers untill we can find them a home that would great! On exhibit? I really hope they're not using them as 'feeder' animals (for their snakes / etc.) I've never seen Cavies in a zoo before (wild or otherwise) and the local zoo is one of the largest nationwide.

My zoo is Missouri has a Children's Zoo, which small animals and such. They have many guinea pigs, maybe 15 in about a 5x5 or a 4x4 type cage made out of wood. This upsets me because they don't get unlimited hay or pellets, just pellets at dinner and breakfast. And they only get veggies and fruits once a day too. They are pretty well cared for except for the fact of the feeding and housing.

no they're at a Zoo zoo like a tigers and llamas and stuff

Yup, they're in a petting zoo.
They get vets to go there and such, and supposably they are healthy(my dad's girlfriend is a volunteer there) but I'm just not too sure. It sounds really weird to me....

The only pigs I've ever seen in a zoo were of the wild, undomesticated variety.

We have guinea pigs in a zoo's over here as well. They are kept in huge cages and they seem quite happy

The Indianapolis Zoo has guinea pigs. They are in the petting zoo area but not accessable for petting. They are only out on nice days though since it is outside. They have a big house and ramps and everything. They have bunnies like that too.

I've seen guinea pigs in zoo's. Usually they have like a big open area (like other animals would) with tunnels and stuff....and veg, but not really much hay. They're usually in massive packs like 10-20...
