Unhappy is it ok if i dont have two pigs

I only have 1 guinea pig and i cant get another until shes older. Is this okay. Believe me she gets plenty of attention from me, but she has no one to play with at night when shes awake. I just made her an extra big cage so maybe she will play with herself but im still worried. If it is okay, about how long should i spend with her. Once again im saying I SPEND LOTS OF TIME WITH HER (except at night)

Why can't you get another? Parents? They can be convinced, trust me. Take them to the computer, plunk them down in the chair and have them read www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm. They really should have a buddy. Good luck! =)

Actually, an older piggie is usually a good match for a baby piggie. There's no reason why your pig can't have a SAME SEX (or neutered) buddy. You can check Petfinder (http://petfinder.org) or Cavy Rescue Classifieds (http://cavyrescue.com/rescues.htm) to start finding a piggie buddy.

Most guinea pigs do much better with a buddy. You seem to already have the space. How big is your cage?

Ok. Well, I'm sorry about that. If I were you, I'd like to have myself consoled, but unfortunately I can't do that... piggies need a companion. If you can't provide one, I'm sorry, but I just don't know what to say. What do you mean when you say you can't get one until you're older? I'm a bit lost on that point. If you can get one later, why not just speed things up a bit and get abuddy now? Good luck! =)

You really should get them in pairs, thats one of the first things i learned about guinea pigs. I nearly got hammered on another thread ("convincing parents") when i worded myself badly and made some people think i was only getting one. .

Smile

I only have one piggie and he is a happy, popcorning, chubby guy who I love dearly. He is in the center of the household and receives attention form the three of us whenever we are home. Would he be better off with a piggie pal? Maybe, but I do know that he is well cared for, given floor time, love, food, hugs and kisses all the time and just seems very happy. One piggies, well cared for in a loving home is better than none. I wouldn't worry as long as your piggie gets the care that you say.

Still, it is better to have a pair. It's absolutely wonderful you're lavishing him with attention, but two are still better. Good luck!
