Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Re: Know any Pigs in Chambersburg? | | Most rescues will require that you take a pair so the pigs will not be lonely or have another pig already that will serve as a companion. Do you want a spayed female baby as a companion for another pig?
They also require minimum cage size and planning for vet care; if you can't travel, how do you plan on getting to the vet's office?
Also, pigs can live up to 10 years, if you're planning on going to college, who will care for the pig?
I think it's great that you want to adopt, so I'm sorry to bombard you with questions, but these are things that I ask people when I adopt out pigs. If you feel as though you can adequately answer those questions, then maybe guinea pigs are right for you.
If not, then maybe you could assist a rescue by socializing pigs or fostering. It gives you all the joys of having pigs without as much financial responsibility and long term commitment; I live in MD not too far from you and have 8 foster pigs, there is always a need, so think about it. Also, if you aren't responsible for them permanently or for the vet bills, your mother might be more likely to say yes to having pigs in your home.
