Talking Adopted Maci

Hello I am so excited. I have been approved through Guinea pigsrus rescue to adopt Maci. I pick her up on Monday, I wanted to get her sooner but her foster mom is busy, so I will have to wait 2 more days. I think most of you have seen Maci on petfinder, she has now been taken of of there, Yeah. She has been through alot, she had a uterus infection and ovarian cysts. She was going to be put down but instead the vet spayed her and sent her to guinea pigs r us. So now she will live with Spanky, after a few days of introduction on neutral ground. Any other advice on introduction and putting then together? Thank you for listening.

Re: Adopted Maci

Congratulations. I would still keep her in a Quarantine period before you place them together. When you do introduce them, I would suggest doing it outside in the grass or inside with lots of veggies present. This way they are distracted by the food and can still socialize. Be prepared to have a towel ready incase there is squabbling. If the teeth chattering begins and they lunge, just throw the towel over them or between them. The sudden darkness will calm them out of surprise. The towel simply placed between them works well too. It will give to you time to move them to neutral territory. This worked well when I introduced my two girls. Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Adopted Maci

I brought Maci home today. She is so pretty and so friendly. The foster home said she had put her in quaratine already when she found out I would be adopting her. She put her in a seperate cage. She has been to the vet and had treatment for mites just incase. I introduced Spanky and Maci on neutral territory with lots of hay and veggies. Maci does not care much about Spanky but he keeps chasing her. He keeps sniffing her bum, but sometimes it looks like he is chewing her hair. He is so pushy and talkative, he is too excited. He is being nice, but won't leave her alone. She is hidding in her pocket. Is all of this normal and how long will it last?

Re: Adopted Maci

Well today they are fine. They are getting along great. For some reason they are both sleeping in one pigloo together, but there is another hidey house, hamick and a pocket for them to go into. They follow eachother around like lost souls, it's so cute. Wow everyone was right, Spanky is so different with a buddy. He is much more lively.
