Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I saw this very sad story about 52 guinea pigs being dumped by the road a few days ago on the news here in the Netherlands, 49 of them are now in a rescue centre waiting to be adopted by loving people. (The story in dutch: Vrouw vindt 52 cavia's [Blik op Nieuws.nl - Flevoland]) Original news report Translated by me: 49 Guinea pigs looking for a new home: ![]() Almere - On the Botterweg in Almere (The Netherlands) this Sunday afternoon a 40 year old woman found two banana box's full of Guinea pigs. On the Galjootweg they found the same sort of box. In total they found 52 guinea pigs of which 4 were dead. The Animal Ambulance took care of the animals on scene and took them to the local Animal Centre. Why someone would dump the animals there nobody knows, One guess would be that right before the vacation they needed to get rid of their out of control hobby as nobody would be able to take care of them while away. ![]() ![]() A lot of the guinea pigs are still looking for a new home and as a bunch of the females are pregnant they should expect a lot more to come! So If your interested in giving these guinea pigs a loving home you can go here for more information on address and such: anieuws (Dutch website) Personal View on story: I was really shocked to hear this story all those poor guineas you most be really evil to do that, if nobody would have found them they would have died from starvation and what not, what a horrible way to let them die! I just hope some people are interested in getting them. I would be but we can't have any more at the moment. |

Aww, poor babies. They look very thin. I wish I could take some home, but they wouldn't appreciate the travel. |

They don't know who dumped them there, they are looking for witnesses, Overall they were in pretty good shape under the conditions so they were probably taken care for before they got dumped (atleast too some extend) I'm guessing it was a pet owner that got overwhelmed with the ammount of work that went into them and how fast they could reproduce. Or some breeder that couldn't find anyone to take care of them when on holidays (a breeder out for purely the money, Perhaps petstore related?) |

Those poor babies! It makes one wonder what kind of people can do such a thing and be so cruel. I hope they all find wonderful homes soon. |

Poor babies. I just don't know what people think. Do put them in boxes and just dump them. Breaks my heart. They are so thin. So very glad they now have a chance at life. |

Gosh, they do look so thin. That is incredibly sad. I don't know how the person can live with themselves after doing that. Poor pigs. I'm glad that they were found. I don't understand why people don't sex them correctly and separate them. It is not hard to see the difference. Yes, my pigs had babies in past, before I knew about overpopulation, and I could tell the day they were born what sex they were. My males are neutered now. That is really cruel leaving them like that. *sigh* |

I bet as soon as they get good nutrition, their hair will just not stop growing. They look like they are really long hairs. |
