27 to die at shelter in SC - Guinea Pig Cages, Care, Store, Photos of Guinea Pigs and More Forum!

I have been working with this shelter and today I spoke to one of the managers they are running out of funds and space to keep the pigs much longer. They have said 2 weeks more and thats it. They need adopters and if you can't adopt but live not to far from SC and would like to foster I may could use you as well.

I have been in touch with a GA rescue and she is willing to take a good many of these pigs but it would be nice if the word got out and these pigs got homes instead.
I am going to take whatever number is left. I don't want to think that they were put down because I didn't want to loose a little space in my rescue. With gas prices the way they are I am trying to find someone in the Spartanburg,Greenville area or close to it that could help with transporting the pigs to me. Spartanburg is a little more than 1 hr from Charlotte,NC as well.

I am financially unable to add any more at this point but would love to help transport if any pigs need to come to Memphis or beyond.

I live near Charlotte and may be able to help in some way. What do you need the most? I MAY be able to foster a couple - will have to work on my hubby though. Where do you need transportation from and to? From GV/S to Columbia??

Right now the most needed is to get them from GV/Spartanburg to at least Newberry,SC which is about 1hr from me. If someone could bring them to Columbia that would be better but as long as they get around 1hr from me that would help out greatly. We just need to do it ASAP.
Other needs are bedding,water bottles, and coroplast for the new pigs. But I will be greatful for anything that comes my way.

Hey I'm near Charleston SC and could possibly transport a few to your area or near your area. Just let me know where you are and where they are and I'll see what I can work out. I really can't take on any more piggies, permanant or fosters but I'd love to be able to help get them somewhere safe. Let me know.

I believe that Spartanburg is about an hour or so from me, depending on traffic. I might be wrong. I'm a stay at home Mom so I don't really have much of a schedule to work around, plus I have a minivan so I could transport quite a few if needed.

Buggie I am close to Columbia and from there it is almost 2hrs for me to drive and I am 110 miles from Charleston so it would be even more of a drive for you. It is in the Upstate of SC. Do a mapquest and you will see. If you want to help transport that would be great but IT is more than 1hr from you.

For some reason I thought it was south of me. I thought I remembered seeing signs for Spartanburg while heading down 95 south towards Florida. Hmmmm. Well if you need a driver, I have a van. If others that are closer offer, then use them, but if you get stuck I'd be more than happy to make the trip, even if it is longer.

My hopes have come true. 27 little piggies will be arriving here tomorrow mid-day. They have a special angel that has agreed to do the transport. She don't know just how much she means to me for helping save these pigs lives.
So for 2 weeks they will live here and then around 10 of them will go to live at the N.GA guinea pig rescue with a dear friend of mine. I will be spending time tonight getting ready for them.

Oh good, I'm glad they're making their way to you. I fully expect pigtures, I'm sure everyone else does too. If this situation arises again feel free to PM me and I'll help however I can. You have my info. Good luck with all the new little ones, they're going to a great foster Mom. Just make sure you don't end up keeping them all.

Piggie Parent---When the horder situation orginally came up I contacted Janet Adams and had talked to her about it. At that time she said for me to keep her informed and that she maybe able to take about 10-15 pigs if needed. Do you want to contact her or want me to give her a call??? I know right now you have a lot of piggies and mom's having babies and I know that NG was in a simuliar situation and Janet only has a few right now. Just a thought.

Let me know if you are needing anything whether it be fostering, food, whatever and I will try to help in anyway possible.

Oh there is NO NO NO way I can keep them all here for an extended period of time. I am going to have cages everywhere as it is and at least it is just until the 12th. But even then I will be so totally full. I got a call today from the not so good shelter that is on my way to meet the transport yesterday and they have a pig there so I am going to stop by there and grab it heck whats one more. They PTS quickly usually less than 7days for small animals because they don't have funds nor space for them.Its a sad time of year for sure.
As of right now I am CLOSED to intakes. No ifs ans or butts

I have no way to get them to her that is the problem. Everyone is full right now and with schools starting back it is hard for people to help transport. Which I understand.

Ok, hubby and I were over here talking and trying to think if we could help with transportation, but five hours----YIKES, NOT!!!!

Ok, still helping (and hubby by the way is not being much help, he is in there counting grids of the new cage trying to figure out how many more we could fit in the new cage and offer a home too

), I called my sis and the beds will be coming shortly, do you need food, hay, or would you rather me send some money for veggies, wood chips that kind of stuff.???---How about me come take the girls off your hands and free up some room (kidding, not really, but ya kidding).
