Exclamation 8+ pigs in VA

The Virginia Beach SPCA currently has 8 guinea pigs up for adoption along with rabbits, rats, mice, hamsters, and a gerbil. There are 7 boys and 1 girl at the shelter right now, and I am fostering a pregnant piggie for them who has yet to give birth. We really need to get some of these guinea pigs adopted, otherwise there will be no room for mamma and her babies at the shelter. I don't know all of the guinea pigs' personalities but most seem very friendly but shy.

One of the males up for adoption is Pippen. He is super cute with an awesome, mellow, and sweet temperment. This big boy loves attention and loves to cuddle. I think he would do well around kids and make a great family pet.

The female at the shelter is Sally. She was abandoned at the shelter door and there was a possibility she was pregnant. However, she has been at the shelter for several weeks and we know she is definitely NOT pregnant. She is a sweetheart and my personal favorite. She loves to run around and explore, and she is very sociable with people and other guinea pigs.

Please come and check them out if you're in the area! www.vbspca.com

Re: 8+ pigs in VA

I would assume that the answer to that question is no. Most rescues and shelters with any compassion for animals will not ship them. There is a contact us link on that site though, so you should be able to find a phone number and ask them directly.

Re: 8+ pigs in VA

Are there any piggies at Va Beach SPCA that could be or already bonded as a pair? Thanks.

Yes, Delaware is about 2 hours from northern Virginia, but driving to VA Beach from Northern Virginia would be 4 or 5 hours of driving.

Re: 8+ pigs in VA

There are no pairs currently, but I think all of them have potential. There were two boys (Tom and Jerry) that were paired up, but they were seperated because of scuffling. They didn't injure each other and I think they could be paired up again. I think they were bickering because they were both housed in a small cage with only one pigloo, one food dish, and one water bottle. With a C&C cage and two pigloos, I don't think they would have any problems.

I have had Sally, the female, out with other females before and she seemed to love the company. I think she would do great with other females or a neutered male.

Pippin is a big mellow boy and I think he would get along fine with a smaller, younger male.

If you visit the shelter and were interested in adopting, a staff member or volunteer could help you get out the guinea pigs and see which ones get along.
