Hi all, I need to find a home for a lovely little boar named Harry (that's what I call him) he was rescued from a Petco. He was purchased and then returned with signs of a fight or something having attacked him. My lover works there and he brought him home with hopes of adding him to our pair of boars, Neville and George(all done after a week of isolation, all Harry's wounds having healed, and on neutral ground). Neville is the dominant one in the house and he and Harry had more than just words, with poor George being a victim to both others anger. I have had to seperate Harry from the other two. Meanwhile, Neville chatters non-stop and goes up second story and stares , chatters and hackles up at poor Harry who is in a smaller c&c in the floor below table where main cage is located. I really wanted to keep Harry he is a sweet , abisynian( hope I spelled that right) four colors with some brindling . I want to keep him and we have a big enough main cage for three (4x2 x2 story C&C)but just can't keep him and Neville from fighting. I have a ramp to the second story and lifted it to keep them apart and Neville went balistic jumpimg up on pigloos and trying to get to Harry. Goerge and Harry seem to get along just fine, albiet they have had little peaceful time to spend with Neville's antics. Let me know if anyone is interested I have word out here as well amoung all my friends and family, Harry needs a good, less stressful , home. |

Well I posted that he has four colors and I am confusing him with George, Harry has only two, with like maybe four or five of the hair twirls. |

He sure is cute. I have all females and can't afford to take on another. There is a lady in Memphis who used to rescue but isn't taking in anymore animals. However, she still has a petfinder page and sometimes gets inquiries from people looking for pigs. Here is her petfinder page, you may contact her to see if she can help in placement. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/katskritters.html |

Aww, I wish I was closer, I'd take him in a heartbeat, I'd have to change his name though, I have to boys named Harry and Hagrid. |

I am more and more in the mind set to keep Harry and maybe find him a friend or two. I have a room which they are housed in, currently used as a 'display' room for mine and Bill's toys.... LIKE Hot Wheels for me and Horror Movie stuff for Bill (Neville's other dad) and or camping gear from Hades. Sorry I strayed, point being, I have room for more cages and I REALLY like the little pooters. My hasta have never done better than since I have spread pig poo around them and it keeps the squirrels guessing as well...LOL ... I think I might be able to help others in need of adoption and a good home. The ones that I have , Neville, Goerge & Harry are all adopties that I have taken in and if it takes having the whole male cast of 'harry potter' to make the pigs happy, so be it. As a second hind sight thought , maybe Neville should have been called Lord Voldamort since he treats Harry so bad. Goerge being a 'orange/red ' head was a shoe in for his name. Here's Goerge's head shot. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9...a85/George.jpg |

That would be awesome if you kept him. There are always pigs in need, unfortunately. Thatkat may have some ideas where some are that need homes, if you want to email her through her petfinder page. I know of several just taken from a breeder but they are in Atlanta. We could work out transport from there to here if you are interested. |

If you really want to try him with your other boars, I'd suggest a bigger cage than a 2x4. I've got three in a 3x4, and they're mostly placid, older boars, but I still see squabbles even then. |

That is awsome that you are thinking of keeping him! I definately agree, a 4x2 for 3 boars is by no means a recommended cage size. For 3 calm sows, it can work, but boars, especially ones with more dominant personalities, usually need more room. even a 5x2 or better, a 4x3 or 6x2 would be better. Making either a second loft on the other end or expanding the upper loft may help too. As long has all the males are not drawing blood or really going at it, they may be fine, just working out what they need to, who is in charge! Have you looked over the social life info at www.cavyspirit.com? It has all the signs that are normal, and those that would require separating. I think with a bigger cage, distractions during floor time, and a bit of time, if you are willing to get this thing to work, you probably can! Otherwise, it may be possible to get Harry his own friend! Just one question, what ages are they all? Some ages are harder to do intros with then others! |

I really do want this to work and I am trying to get them used to each other by putting cages beside each other, I have Harry in his own 2x3. My main cage is 2x4 x2 story tall so it has floor space of a 4x8 minus one section that the ramp takes up. I have pics posted of it on the site. The picture does not show last cage section I added , as of before it was minus two upstair sections for the ramp now just the one. I do admit it takes a bit to clean it all but they seem to like to do their business down stairs so it means popping out a wall to clean all the bottom area. They like to play and be played with so it is not a problem getting to them as they will run up ramp to greet us. Neville is the oldest , under a year old, maybe 7-8 months. Goerge and Harry seem to about the same age 5-6+ months old. I have taken them all in as adopties so I am not at all sure of their birth dates, that and the fact that they all are different sub-breeds makes it hard to make side by side comparision. Let's put it this way Neville is the biggest ,George next and finally there's Harry running very close in size to George. |

I can see your problem very clearly now, they are all going into adolecense. Neville is in the thick of it, but Harry is not far behind, you have teenage boys on your hands! My guess is George is just very laid back and will always be submissive, a good match for either Neville or Harry alone. However, Neville and Hary may want to rip eachother to pieces for the next few months. More space should help though. I would give all three a buddy bath, make a larger cage, and do a floor time, set out lots of veggies, a pile of hay, and a few hidey houses and see how it goes. If it goes well, put them in the larger cage together. If not, it may take some more work! Hopefully someone with actual boar experiance can come along and give you great advice! Try to avoid putting them together and separating them though, that can make things worse! As they keep reliving the intro, over and over again! Never figuring their standing with eachother out! |

Also, putting an out of cage ramp is a way to avoid it eating up floor space, or could you make the space under the ramp into one of their hidey huts? That way, it will not sacrifice space! |

I suggest that you combine both cages. hook them up with just a one grid thick wall and let it be for a few days. then while doing a cage clean out, have a marvelous flootime with tons of salad, hay, hidey spots etc. Make the cage one huge cage and try again. |
