Two young Guineas need a new home

I have two young guineas that need a new home. I live in Blackfoot Idaho but we are willing to get them to any one that wants them as long as they live in the United States. They are about 3 years old. There names are Henry and Cinamin. Henery has crucked toes and his toe nails have to be trimed regularly; their past owners didn't ever trim his toes so they grew cruked and grow very fast ( his toes are streightening but they are still a little crucked) Cinamin has bald spots (not purmanent) because Henery pulls his hair out when they fight. They are both male. They are very sweet but ecuse of his toes haveing to be trimed Henery doesn't like being picked up but once he is and your not triming his toes he is very sweet. Cinnamin doesn't mind being picked up but you have to get him out of hs hidy house first or he will hide from you. The price is just whatever it costs to get them to you ( prie for shiping if far away or price for gas if close enough to drive)

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

I really hope you re-consider shipping them anywhere. That's not a good idea. I hope someone is able to take these pigs soon. It sounds like they aren't in very good condition and need a loving home. Good luck!

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Have you treated them for mites? That can make any pig irritable as well as lack of space. Why can't you just get them a bigger cage?

It sounds like you already know why they are fighting. We gave you advice, but instead you'd rather give them away instead of fixing it?

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

I have gotten a PM form Ariel. She seems fairly set on rehoming these animals.

I don't think anything can be done to change her mind and improve living conditions.

If we can concentrate on getting these animals rehomed and not fight about it then we will be acting in the best interest of the animals.

Ariel - This site is not set up just to rehome animals no questions asked. It is a site dedicated to providing better conditions for our pets and to educate about animal welfare.

Keep in mind that the people here want what is best for your pets. Anything said is being said on the animals' behalf. We do not like to see animals rehomed if it is at all possible to simply make some changes so they are getting the care they need. Remember that when you feel you are being treated harshly

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Well if you are set on rehoming, I would post similar threads on www.guinealynx.com and www.pigloo.net. Also if you have Craigslist in you state that is a good source. You can also list them on http://cavyrescue.com/cc.htm You can also put an ad in your local newspaper. Good luck, and I hope you find them a very good home.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Petfinder.com also has a classified section you can post in, and there is a site, although I don't know how busy it is, www.gpan.net . Just keep in mind, there are a lot of scams out there, people looking to profit from your needing to find a new home.

They send you a form letter, saying they want to adopt your "pet". They may claim to be really great people, affiliated with some do gooder group. Usually written in broken english. The scam works in that they want you to ship the pig. They will send you a cert. check or MO, you cash it, then turn around, and send a portion of the payment to their "shipper" so the shipper can make arrangements to transport the pig. Then, the shipper is supposed to come and pick up the pet but never does. You get a call a few days later from your bank, telling you the payment was a fake, and they are charging the amount back to your account!

Really, shipping is a terrible idea, but you could find yourself defrauded.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

AWWWW so ADORABLE!!!! But I've just read this thread and am rather shocked at some of the responses given. I'm sorry all, but If Ariel doesn't have the time or space for her pets then re-homing them IS a better solution, better then a local pound anyway. If this forum was not set for finding new homes for piggies then why even have the "adoptables" section in the first place?
Pinkgrass- Who are you to flat out assume the pigs are being neglected?! How rude.
Voodoojoint- Your thread was disrespectful in the way that you started out by openly talking about ariel's private message. There's a reason why they call it "Private". Then you assumed, along with a couple other people, that ariel's pigs are being neglected or not cared for properly.
Ariel- I'm sorry to see that you got such negative responses to your attempt to find your piggie a new home. I know from personal experience that some animals require a little more care and attention then others and that's ok. You do what you need to do to find a new home for your pigs. The questionaire is a GREAT way to screen for potential homes. GOOD LUCK!!!

Read the title of this entire site. See the "Cavy Cages" logo up there? This site is all about taking better care of our pets.

We have an adoptables forum to help people rehome GPs. Not to help people dump their pets.

Ariel stated she in not taking as good of care of them as she should be, therefore they are being neglected.

Nice assuming tone you've got there. If you must butt your face into it you may want to know that Ariel PMed me and ASKED me to help tone things down here. Which I did by stating that there is nothing we can do to change her mind (she made this clear in her PM to me) She also PMed me to say thanks for getting things back on track.

Not assuming anything dear. Just going on what Ariel has posted.

I recommend in the future you DROP your holier then though ASSUMING attitude. There is a reason I am a mod and you are not. Also learn to pick up on hints a bit better. I think most people realized when I said "I got a PM from Ariel" that I had some inside info that should not be questioned.

You have also used up your allotment of annoying smilies for the month. Don't use them like punctuation. I find it hard to concentrate on what someone was saying when there are all these colorful jellybeans all over the screen.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Ariel pmed me as well and we've talked about her piggie's situation. Seemed nowhere near neglectful to me. If ariel doesn't know about the extensive care guinea pigs require then that would explain their not so good situation. I butted in because you posted your reply on a "public" forum for everyone else to read. I just didn't like the way you worded your whole reply, it seemed rather mean to me, hence my aggressive tone as well. I was angry that so many people would frown on re homing pets yet everyone's so dead set on "adoption not buying from pet stores". what's the difference if someone adopts ariel's piggies? Maybe the person who adopts them will be able to provide better care and a happier home. Wouldn't that be in their best interest? I wont apologize for my anger but I will apologize for the way I snapped. I like to use this forum as a support source for advice on the care of guinea pigs since I own one but would like to see a little more support going around and not so much discouragement. I happen to like the smilies, that's what they're here for right?

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Sure, everyone wants to see pets that are unwanted go to a good home-they also want them to recieve the best care why they are waiting for it. Smiles are for limited use, it states it in the forum rules. Everyone here does support one another, they also do not candy coat the truth. It isn't about us, it's about the welfare of the animals involved.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

The reason we were all upset is because it sounded like Ariel was dumping her pigs. We are trying to fight the idea of guinea pigs as disposable pets, easily gotten rid of when the owner is bored. The adoptable forums are for adopting out pigs though, and that is why VJ responded publicly so that this thread can go back to the original topic: finding these two a home. But the topic has gone off again.

If you're wondering about our attitudes please read through: http://www.cavycages.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=69 andhttp://www.cavycages.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=68

And especially this thread which explains the rule about smilies:http://www.cavycages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16591

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

This is a place to rehome your pets; however, a lot of people want to rehome their pets due to relatively simple problems that can be solved with little or no effort. That is the reason why we question people when they want to rehome. It is in the best interest of the animal that we question people.

First off, I didn't say she was neglecting them. I didn't assume anything. I was basing my opinion off her other thread. I meant they are better off with someone who can offer more space and better care. She had another thread about her pigs in the Cavy Chat; they are in a small cage 17x30-something cage and they were not getting along. Ariel knew what I was talking about because I posted in her other thread. I want her to find a good home for her pets, however I'm also against the idea of shipping them.. I may have left a sour attitude because of that. I apologize.

Ariel- I really do hope you find a good home for them. They deserve that.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

While the idea of assisting "dumping" (not saying that is Ariels intentions) may seem to fly in the face of CavyCages goals, it really isn't in many respects. T runs a rescue, many members here do, or assist rescues all the time. Some people will NOT keep their pigs, no matter what is said, or what solutions are found, these people will find a new home for the pigs one way or another. No one has to like it, but it is the truth.

It is best if these people can find a new home on their own. It is also the most responsible thing they can do, next to keeping the pets, which we know, they are not going to do.

What is accomplished by calling them down, inflaming them, and getting them to leave the adoptions boards? Nothing, except possibly the very thing that under no circumstances do we want them to do, a shelter dump!

If they can't find a home on their own, then the next stop for many of these pigs is a shelter, which leads to a rescue in many cases.

So, getting big and puffed up (not saying anyone on this thread was) by hammering down on someone who does not want to keep their pigs, is really a pretty stupid thing to do, other then make yourself feel good, it does nothing constructive, and can lead to the worst kind of dumping.

Ariel: I think your pigs are real cute, hopefully the pigtures will help! Make sure to post them with any other adoptable postings you have out there! Good luck on finding homes for your pigs!

Still though, please keep in mind, that most areas in the US and Canada, have lots of available pigs in the area looking for homes. I would really question anyone wanting your pigs "shipped". Why can they not adopt locally? Have they been blacklisted from local shelters and rescues? You can't do a homecheck, all you have is their word on what kind of a pet owner they are, and what their intentions with your pigs are!

I think that shipping is more common with very rare breeds or varieties, your pigs look like adorable little mutts to me! Shipping may also be dangerous, terrifying, and very very expensive. I really hope you will reconsider it.

Unless the person is a CavyCager or another forums regular member, then I would suspect a scam, no ifs ands or buts about it! By responding to the request, you are leaving yourself very vulnerable to be put on every scam/spam list in North America! Believe me, that is not a fun place to be! They may have a backdoor for trying to get your banking / personal info if you cash a check, or just really try to work you for any info at all.

If someone wants you pigs "shipped" it should be a red flag something is wrong, you really need to ask "why do you want my pigs?"

Not so say that with pigtrains, you could not manage to get the piggy rehomed a good distance from your house!

Glad to see that you are doing the right thing in finding a new home yourself if you are unwilling to care for your pigs any longer. Best of luck!
