Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Ok now that some issues have been explained I see a little more clearly the hesitation people have here. I'm a cavycager as of recently and am interested in Ariel's piggies. I have 1 myself of course and am familiar with the extensive care they require and am totally ok with it. If Ariel lived a little closer to me I'd have no problem getting the piggie's myself. I see the issue with shipping but if thats the only option next to a shelter dump then I'd go for it in a heart beat. Good Luck Ariel.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Thank you all for all the help you have given me. Even though we had a little spew I still really appritiate that you all care about my pigs. I can tell you all are wondering a few things about what my plans are with my pigs.

First off I would love to keep my pigs and get them the biger cage and change all the things that I can to give them a better home without haveing to get ride of them. But I am only 16 and it was my parents desision to get rid of them. So I offered to get on some of these forums and talk to people and see if I could find them a home on here. I would definately prefure to find them a home with some one who really loves guineas and that know how to take care of them best.

Secondly when we got our pigs we had no Idiea thet they were so expencive. We got them from a yard sale and the ladies we got them from told us they were very cheep. However they also told us that they kept them in the basement and only went down to see them when Henery whould wisle that they were out of food or water. So that also really ade us want to get them because we DO NOT believe in ignoring pets.

Now to clear up a few more things.

We had talked about shiping them if some one far away wanted them. But if the shiping company wont take extra consideration that these are live animals that are easily broken and hrt then they will not be shiped.

I have done the things I can to make their lives less stressful in there small cage. They get to leave their cage alot more. whenever I am home they are usually on the flore surounded by any thing I can use to keep them in the middle of the floor and not under the furniture. I put one of those tube things in there for another hiding place ( another house definately wont fit or they would never be able to move. I am geting another fod bowl ready for them and they will be getting another water thing. That's all they really have room for in their and still be able to move around some. I know that's not enough to compleately keep them from fight ing but they haven't fought agin since the other night except for a couple gelousy things like when I bathed Cinnamin first Henery got upset and chatered at Cinnamin alot while I was geting things ready to give Henery his bath. But that is all that they have done since the other night when I asked for eveyones help.

Thanks agin for all the help! And for caring so much about my pigs.
Oh and P.S. nomatter how long it takesto find them a new home they will not go to a shelter

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

It's good to hear Ariel that you are doing the responsible thing in finding them a good home. I'm very sorry that you can't afford to keep them, as it sounds with a little bit of learning you could make a very good cavy mommy. I hope you find a great home for you little guys.

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Is it just the expense driving your parents decision? There are things you can do to reduce the cost. In summer particularly, corn husks are often found free, fresh grass grows well in pots or in a special part of the lawn, you could try growing a few veggies yourself, hay can be found in bulk online or through a feed store, even a horse stable can often help out, either by selling you a few flakes, or pointing you in the right direction.

The cubes to build a bigger cage are not very expensive, often found on sale even, especially with summer getting on, and stores starting to stock back to school stuff. If you can't afford the coroplast right away, that is ok, as you can make due with cardboard box board, especially if you get a plastic sheet like a plastic table / picnic cloth or shower curtain.

I don't mean to put "pressure" on you to keep them, just that if there is a way you can, or at least lesson the cost until you can find them a home, then that would be a good thing right?

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

That is true C&K. When I ordered the materials for my c&C cage, I received the grids first (2 weeks ago), then the cage accessories (2 days ago), then just last night the coroplast. I built the cage as soon as the grids arrived and used cardboard as a temporary bottom. Now replacing the cardboard with the coroplast, I've completed the lower level of the cage. I will be completing the top level today. I will also be taking pictures and posting them today, especially so ariel can see the cage set-up. Everyone will be able to see my beloved Billy! YEAH!!!

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

Thank you very much CK! I really wish the cost was the only reason that my parents wanted to get ride of them! But they don't like the mess they make and my mom hates cleaning them! I told her about flease so I think she might try that. Isn't that cheaper than wood pellets and paper? I thought it was because you would only need to buy enough for two changings and then just wash the others and use them agin. All you have to buy agin is puppy pads. I am going to be helping with the cost quite a bit now that I have a job but I know that wont get them to keep them. Thank you for the advise though I will use some of that while we still have them.

Billy'smom I'm very excited to see your cage and Billy!

Re: Two young Guineas need a new home

I dropped off the film to be developed yesterday and today went to go pick it up & the whole film was blank! The store replaced the camera free of charge but unfortunatley I wont be able to post pics til next month. I'm sorry for the inconvenience ariel and I was really looking forward to showing off my piggie's new cage but now It'll have to wait a little longer.
