Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

The last piggie I added to my family came to me pregnant. She had two babies on January 26th but one was stilborn. Most likely due to her being so young.
The surviving baby is a sweet, healthy baby boy. If anyone is interested please let me know. He should be ready to go to his new home around the beginning of March. I want him to have a loving home. ( I really wanted him to be a girl, so I could keep him.)

Here is a pic of him taken today.

I know. It is scary and sad to think about him not being taken care of.
I just do not see how people can breed their piggies and then just give the babies to whoever. Both the girls I rescued came to me pregnant. So this has been so hard for me.

becasue they just don't care. And that is how the rescues get so full. I think it is great that you are trying to find them a good home.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

The baby is now three and a half weeks old. We will be starting the weaning process this week. (Mom already is) So he should be ready for his new home in 2-3 weeks.

He should be separated at 3 weeks old, or he can impregnant mom now and the sisters in a few days.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

I have heard between three and four weeks...but our baby had a shaky start anyway. There are no sisters, he is an only baby. Since she was so young and I had no idea she was pregers until about a week before she had the babies and she is very picky about her veggies, she started showing what turned out to be signs of a vitamin C deficiency once the babies came. One baby was stilborn and the other very small. Molly (the mother) was limping badly on both hind feet and the baby was limping slightly on one back foot just after delivery. I took them to the vet and she checked them out completely and felt it was a vitamin c deficiency, probably brought on by the stress of pregnancy/delivery and her age. They both got vitamin c injections. The baby was fine in two days but still small. Molly limped for a couple of weeks, getting a little better each day. Now they are both fine. But he is still actively nursing and has not shown any signs of "male" behavior. The vet said he should nurse until 4 weeks if we can. Molly just started nipping at him yesterday. My baby is growing up. Sorry so long.

Well my Mom does live right on the border of Virginia and NC (that is at least 2 hours closer to you) and I do visit her quite often.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

Amanda, He is waiting for you. He cried for his Mom a little today. So I put him in with my soon to be neutered male (Bailey) and that has helped. He snuggles up to Bailey and looks adorable, luckily Bailey does not care, he is so easy going.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

Really thinking it over hard! He would go in with three unneutered boars and that scares me. Afraid of puberty.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

How old are your other boars Amanda? Age and personality are really more important than if they have been neutered or not. All the neutering does is make them infertile, not change their personalities.

Brownie is 6 years and the others are just babies. Rudy and Jr. are about 2ish months old, maybe a little more.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

casey42-

My husband and I have been researching about guinea pigs and think they would make a great addition to our family.

We were interested in Baby Boar and didn't know if we could come by to see him (or others) this weekend.

We live in Banner Elk but will be visiting family in Raleigh for the weekend.

Re: Baby Boar in Raleigh, NC

We were not able to meet. Happily, the new owner of a beautiful brown
and white male, Gumbo.

Any suggestions for helping to make him more comfortable as he adjusts to his new home?

All of this is brand new to us but we are already in love with this little guy.
