Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Hi Everyone! I am loking to adopt a pal for my first gp Sophie. I like Abys and Satins and also Pervuians. It has to be a female though. If anyone could help, I would be so thankful. Also since I am a first time cavy owner I would also like some advice! I have attached some pics of Sophie if you would like to see what she look like. Also if anyone could tell me what type of breed she is because I was thinking she was a Tri-Smooth, but I might be wrong. Thanks for everything! ![]() Last edited by SouthernBelle; 01-13-06 at 01:45 pm. |

She looks like she's probably an American. What do you mean when you say you like Satins? There are satins in all breeds. |

Like red satins, my friend has a red satin. It look like a red smooth. I already have the grids and will be getting the coroplast soon. I already know how much it is, I just have to get the money. I am only (age edited out) and I have to pay for my piggie all by myself. SHe will be getting a 2x4 cage. Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 01-13-06 at 10:22 pm. Reason: removing age |

I also live in Alabama. There are no rescues in our state. The closest one is going to be Janet and she is in Knoxville. I have heard wonderful things about her and she has a few piggies right now in need of a home and they are listed on Petfinder along with her information. Good luck in finding your new piggy, but living where we do you will have to do a road trip |

Sophie is a cutie. I know someone in Memphis, but I don't know if she has anyone available because she doesn't have any listings on Petfinder as she usually does. Unless you were near Tuscaloosa, AL and could make it to around Tupelo, MS, it probably wouldn't be feasible without setting up a transport and, of course, parental permission, as they would have to sign the adoption contracts. She also requires C&C cages prior to adoption, and I see that you are already gathering materials so good luck with the building process. You can always keep your current cage for medical emergencies and quarantines, which is what I did with that exact cage. You probably haven't realized this yet if you haven't set up the grids, but the sides and top of that particular cage make an excellent support for lofts that stretch across cages that are 2 grids wide. The sides are also a good length for ramps, and since they have crossbars, they don't sag. All you'd have to do is cover them and attach it to the loft. Just food for thought. |

I live in Central Alabama. Marlania, I am actually using some of those grids to help make the C&C cage. Could anyone tell me where they found their grids. Went to Wal-mart, Target, and Kmart and couldn't find any...='( |

Target is the best place to find them. They are in with the bathroom and bedroom shelving stuff like in the middle of the store. Do you live near Montgomery at all?? THe lady from the Humane Society called me today and she had someone drop of a young male and female, and three babies. Some girl bought them from Petco, bought one of each sex and they had babies than she decided she did not want them anymore. The guinea pig babies are about three weeks old. Some people are so ignorant, well anyways I am actually driving down there on Monday to adopt two other pigs that she had for a while that no one wanted. She is a really nice lady and is wanting to find good homes for them. Let me know if this is near your area at all or if you are wanting more information. |

I found some of my grids at Walgreens, but the last time I went there looking for more, they told me it was considered a summer item, so they wouldn't have any until then. I live in a small town with few places to shop, so I ordered the rest of the grids from Walmart's website. Have you tried the locator? Maybe someone near you has found some around town or a nearby town. http://cavycages.com/where.htm |
