Re: New Home for my piggies.

Where in Indiana do you live? How old are your girls? And why do you have to give them away? Also posting pigtures may help too.

Talking Re: New Home for my piggies.

I live about one hour from Bloomington. I would like to adopt some guinea pigs. I will be trying to soften up my husband. What can you tell me about them? Age? Any health problems? Why are you getting rid of them? What sex are they?

Re: New Home for my piggies.

Sorry,

I was so excited about the prospect of pigs so close to me, I didn't read the post very well. You did answer many of the questions that I asked in my first mail, but any additional info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Stacye

Re: New Home for my piggies.

Hi, well they are 2 females, unsure of age but they are still very young. They don't have any health problems. They are still pretty shy but that is my fault because I don't spend enough time with them. They love to get thier lettuce in the evening, they get very excited when I shake the bag, they start squeeking and running around the whole cage. I had a 3rd piggie, Ruby, who I adopted about 8 months ago. She was mentally handicapped when I adopted her. I adopted her from a petstore, they said she had severe brain damage but noone knew how it happend. Anyway, she recovered to be a pretty happy girl, with a few little quirks i guess. I got these 2 girls for her to have company. The vet said that was fine. Unfourtunatly she passed away last week . Now that she is gone im trying to find a good home for these 2 because like I said, I dont spent enough time with them w/out her here. I know its not being a good owner and that is why I want to find them a home.

Re: New Home for my piggies.

I was just wondering. For basic maintenance, about how much does it cost to properly care for 2 guinea pigs per month. I know they need fresh veggies and hay and then there is the cost of litter - I plan to use fleece. Any ideas? How long would a 5 lb. bag of food last?

Re: New Home for my piggies.

Well, I guess it would be up to about $10 a week on fresh veggies. I usually buy the biggest bag of hay and I have to get new about every 2-3 weeks, hay really doesnt cost that much though. like 5 or 6 dollars i think. I use fleece also, but i used to use carefresh and a big bag of carefresh was around $20 i think, i use half the bag each time i would change the cage and i did that every 2 weeks. I just bought a 5lb bag of food, it probably will last a month. They like to poop in thier bowl for some reason so I change it a lot. I guess it would be around $40 a month. It also depends on toys/treats.

Re: New Home for my piggies.

I have five girls right now and it's not that expensive once you get your cage how you like it. I probably spend between hay, pellets, carefresh and aspen $50 a month. But that's just a guessestimation. Good luck!

Re: New Home for my piggies.

I have thought long and hard about my piggies, I definatly want to keep them. I was just so depressed about my ruby dieing. Their personalities are a lot different now, they seem to be more playful and squeek and chirp alot, especially when they hear the bag of lettuce. I don't know why they didnt do this when Ruby was around but its very cute. Usually she was the only one to get excited about lettuce. I can also use aspen now instead of carefresh which definatly cuts on expence. Ruby could only have carefresh and my 2 girls that are left seem to not have any problems with aspen. Anyway, just wanted to share.

I have 7 girls and I spend over $100 a month between veggies/fruits and supplies. I use Aspen for the bedding and oxbow hay and pellets.
