Two guinea pigs and an adorable bunny up for adoption in Sacramento, CA!

I am offering two DARLING straight-hair guinea pigs (a black one and a brown one with white markings) and an ADORABLE English spot/ Dutch cross rabbit for no charge. The guinea pigs and bunny are VERY sweet and loving and looking for a good new home. Their photos are posted at http://photos.sbc.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos for a look at them. I love them to death, but schoolwork keeps me from keeping these little piggies properly cared for and played with every day (sad, I know it!). If you have any interest, please e-mail me (Emily) at rodents444@sbcglobal.net. I would greatly appreciate if you took them home for your enjoyment. Thank you!

Emily

Piggies are perfectly happy if they get food, water and hay. They don't actually need us humans to give them laptime, that is for our benefit and not theirs. Why not rethink your situation if you can find time to feed/water them everyday. If they have adequate cage space they will be very content to live without a lot of human intervention. It just makes me sad to see people take pets on and then later decide they "don't have time for them".

This is the first time I have ever heard of anyone saying piggies don't need a lot of human attention. I am not contradicting you, but actually agreeing. I have noticed my girls prefer me to be their caregiver, but would rather spend their time with one another. I have what I call a herd (7) and don't have a lot of time to spend with each and every one on a daily basis. I do talk and pet each one every day though. I started with 1 pig almost 2 years ago and she did enjoy spending time with me and I with her, but as I started adding friends she wanted to be bothered by me less and less.

Re: Two guinea pigs and an adorable bunny up for adoption in Sacramento, CA!

It's said on guinealynx that they don't need a lot of human attention. It's been stated for a very long time that laptime is for humans not for the pigs. I too have a herd of 7 sows and on days where I am not home much or days when I can't spend much time with them, they get along on their own with each other for company. As long as I give their veggies, refresh hay and pellets each day, they are as content as can be. I talk to them everyday and pet them all when I do spot cleaning.

The past few days I have been sick so no petting or holding but I do talk to them everyday and make sure they are fed.

I agree with Ly, and others, that say that GPs do not need much human attention. As long as they have the companionship of at least one other GP, a large cage and plenty of good food and enrichment toys/activities in their cage they are fine with us humans leaving them the heck alone.

However for those of us that do like to interact with them it is best to do it often. Daily laptimes makes the experiance less stressful and more relaxing for the GPs then just the occational "swoop and grab" laptimes.

Re: Two guinea pigs and an adorable bunny up for adoption in Sacramento, CA!

I don't feel so bad now. I work full time and along with my herd I also have quite a few hamsters and fish and I also foster GP's. I always make sure their cage is clean, they have food and water, but the one on one time is very limited. They know I am the food lady as they will come running to me when it's time to be fed.

I would like to know how others manage the care of so many and yet find time for other things besides the weekly household chores. Though I live alone things still need to be done and I have found my hobbies have landed on the back burner. Decorating this year for Christmas is probably not going to happen either due to lack of time.

Hello! I live in Escalon, CA which is only about 45 minutes from you up in Sacramento. I have plenty of piggies (4) for myself but I have friends who are looking to adopt in the nearby future. If I could get pictures (as stated, the link doesn't work) maybe I could email the pics to my friend and get back to you? My email is scslug21@aol.com. Thanks!

Re: Two guinea pigs and an adorable bunny up for adoption in Sacramento, CA!

When I read this thread I thinkt hat the member googled guinea pigs in hope of finding a place like this where she could give her Guinea pigs a lovign home, then made a mebership, posted htis and figured if anyone was interested they would send her an e-mail. If anyone is seriously interested in getting the pigs then I would suggest e-mailing her because, apparently she isn't planning on rechecking this thread.

The Sacremento Animal Shelters regularly have guinea pigs for adoption. Many are at risk of being put down.

Yolo County Animal shelter in Woodland, Sacramento County Animal Control, Sacramento County Animal Shelter, Sacremento SPCA are just a few of them. I think they are all on petfinder.com or email ottosmom on GL for more info.

Where is Pigcrazy???? When I post I check responses several times a day. It has been six days without a response and she had an important issue to address. Maybe it isnt that important to her.

Re: Two guinea pigs and an adorable bunny up for adoption in Sacramento, CA!

I wrote a thread where I said that most people dont take the time to find their guinea pig's personalities. This is proof that they are treated like hamsters. Not intelligent beings with thoughts and feelings and personalities. (I dont have anything against hamsters. I've had many as pets)

Hamsters are just as important as guinea pigs. Just because they are small doesn't mean they don't have great personalities. I have 16 hamsters of different types and they are great pets who communicate with me in their hamster way.

I didnt really mean it like that. I had hamsters when I was a kid and cried for days when they got old and died. I was just giving an example of how people treat their small pets.
