leaky water bottle Can you recommend a water bottle that doesn't drip so much? We have had 2 and they both drip constantly.

Re: leaky water bottle I use the 16oz Oasis water bottle - it has never leaked. I've also used Lix-it which work great most of the time.

Re: leaky bottle I have a bottle that leaks, too. It's the way the watter pressure hits the ball at the bottom. It onces leaked all over the cage in 10 minutes. What I found is after you fill it, and point it down (so it will leak) tap the ball with your finger and turn it a little, that will re-adjust the weight, and it hasn't leaked for me since. -Dan III

I use a Farnam flip top water bottle. This by far has been the best bottle I have seen or used. Click on the link below to go to there website and see the bottle I used. Oh ya, Mine is a short and wide type not the one shown. http://www.buyfarnam.com/cgi-bin/buy...i/3000375.html Pete

Leaking water bottle Hi, We have this problem also. We have 3 cavies. We have tried 3 different types of bottles---ball, ball with spring and valve which is also a flip top. We have placed a brick under the bottle as was recommended, which the cavies love, but the bottle leaks more water than the brick can handle. My husband is getting a little frustrated as he doesn't like to see his cavies running around in wet bedding which is starting to cost us because of the constant replacement of wet bedidng. Is there another way to give them water without a bottle? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

You could try using a water bowl - many people prefer them to bottles anyway. It needs to be a heavy ceramic bowl that they can't tip over. The negatives of this method are that you often end up changing it several times a day because bedding/ poops get in it (often intentionally!). If you're not around much to check they always have fresh clean water in the bowl, it could be an issue.

After you've done all those things, put newspaper under the water bottle to soak up inevitable piggy spills - they like to "chew" the bottle and let water drip down their faces.

| Placing a brick underneath the waterbottle is recomended to catch any of the water that drips out, keeping the bedding dry. And it also cuts down on trimming the nails on the front paws as well (from the constant stepping up onto the brick to get a drink). edited after reading previous response: i just noticed a member answered the question about placing a brick underneath a waterbottle already. | Usually the reason that the water bottles drip is because the holders r to small for the bottle so it press's against it.Every water bottle i have ive had that problem so i made my own holders out of hangers. But sometimes with the waterbottle tops that cover the whole top bottle(not the ones like pop lids) the creases warp and let water just fall through continiuosly. No way to fix that :s. |

I am now on my 3rd water bottle and I've only had the piggies for 4 days! The first one leaked constantly (it was one of those flat sided ones by LixIt that screws onto the cage). The second one I noticed was constantly getting stuck so no water would come out. I now have the cheapest bottle PetCo had to offer as it seemed the most simple. I have left them today with a bowl of water and am sure it will be a mess by the time I get home!!
