Lightbulb Cat grass

I got some cat grass seeds for my birthday. It was very simple, they were planted 1/8" under the soil and watered when dry. Within 5 days it was ready to be muched on. It keeps growing once it has been mowed down. The pigs LOVE it.

Re: Cat grass

That is such a great idea! I have to try that! Do you keep the planter out of the cage until its grown and then put it in for them to munch on?

P.S. Slap- Simon is definately my favorite piggie, I just love his markings!

Re: Cat grass

Thank you! Simon is a cutie.

Yes- I keep the pot near the window as it needs lots of light, then put it in when it gets high enough.

Re: Cat grass

FYI on the grass. Here is a picture of the grass I grow for my animals

The grass is grown in organic compost from "organic hard red wheat berries" purchased at central market (health food store) (Look in the loose food bins)for .99 per lb. The grass is ready to eat in approximately 7 days and does re-grow. the cost for the tray above was pennies. 1lb of wheat berries will grow more than 20 of the above trays. you only need a couple of tablespoon of the berries for each tray. Much cheaper than the cat grass kits.

Re: Cat grass

That is a good idea.

I found some more cat grass in with the other seeds and planted them. Now my entire bedside table is dedicated to piggy happiness.

Re: Cat grass

My brother got cat grass for my 'cat' once. He planted it in the garden and put a fence up around it. The guinea pigs got into the area and ate ALL the grass!
