Lightbulb Huge hay rack alternites???

I have two male guinea pigs who LOVE their hay, as all guineas do, and I have to fill up the hay 2 times a day wich is not bad, except that I am extreamly alergic to the hay and i HATE having to fill it up, i get wheezy and what not.

Sooo.. What could I use as an alternate, something that Maybe could hang from the top/ center of the cage because they make a HUGE messs with their hay! Any Ideas?

Pics are great!!!

Re: Huge hay rack alternites???

It might be easier just to have two or more hayracks. That will also make it easier for them both to eat at the same time too.

I've built a hay box out of grids. It's about the size of 1x2 cubes. It holds a lot of hay and my pigs loved it. With this size, you'll need to have a large cage. For smaller cage, you can probably use 1x1 cube.

Re: Huge hay rack alternites???

Wear work gloves and use a bandanna or mask when you handle the hay. There can be all kinds of molds, dust and other undesirable things in hay that can irritate your skin, eyes and cause allergic reactions.

Also, I don't know what kind of hay you are using. Pet store hay is usually garbage and full of dust and other things. You may want to try switching to fresh hay or fresh 2nd cut hay. It usually contains less dust and foreign material.
